Okay, so I was totally stumped by this crossword clue the other day: “chocolate covered morsel at the movies.” It drove me crazy! I love crosswords, and consider myself to be pretty good, but this one just had me pulling my hair out. First I grabbed a pen and some paper, I needed to map this out.
I started by thinking, “Okay, what do we eat at the movies?” Popcorn, obviously. But that’s not chocolate-covered, and way too many letters. Then I went, “Candy, of course!”
- Tried to do my own brainstorming, and listed, chocolate bars… Nope, not specific enough.
- Malted milk balls… Hmm, maybe, they do have a chocolate layer.
- Chocolate-covered peanuts… Getting warmer!
I was stuck on that “morsel” part. It felt like it had to be something small, bite-sized. I kept thinking of those giant candy bars, and they just didn’t fit.
I thought what else is in the movies, that also has chocolate? I did not make any headway with that and kept running into dead ends.
Then I decided to look for things that are “covered”. That’s where I thought, coating…shell… Aha!
So, I tried plugging in different small, chocolate-covered candies. Buncha Crunch? Nope. Raisinets? BINGO! That had to be it.
I typed it into the crossword, and YES! Raisinets fit perfectly. Seriously, I felt like I’d cracked the Da Vinci Code. It’s those little victories, you know?
It’s funny how the brain works. Sometimes you just gotta go through all the wrong answers to get to the right one. And sometimes, you have to search many paths in the mind before hitting the right one. Glad to have my trusty pen and paper for this sort of thing.
