Alright, alright, let’s talk about this Barbie movie, the one everyone’s yapping about. Is it somethin’ a good Christian should watch? Well, lemme tell ya what I think, and you can take it or leave it, I don’t care much, I’m just tellin’ ya.

Should Christians watch this Barbie thing?

First off, this movie, it ain’t no little kids’ cartoon, ya hear? It’s got them fancy folks talkin’ and doin’ things that might make your grandma blush. They talk about big ideas, like what it means to be a woman and a man, and how the world ain’t always fair. It’s got that lady, what’s her name, Helen Mirren, talkin’ at the start, tellin’ ya how Barbie came to be. Sounds fancy, but it’s just a story, like any other.

Now, some folks are sayin’ it’s bad, sayin’ it goes against the good book. But I say, hold on a minute. This movie, it makes you think. It makes you wonder about what’s right and what’s wrong. And ain’t that what we’re supposed to do as Christians? We gotta wrestle with these things, gotta figure out what God wants from us in this crazy world.

  • It ain’t perfect, mind you.
  • There’s some things in there that I didn’t quite get, and some things that made me scratch my head.
  • But overall, I think it’s got a good heart.

They got this Barbie Land, where everything is pink and perfect, and the Barbies are all pretty and happy. But then, somethin’ happens, and Barbie, she has to go to the real world. And let me tell ya, the real world ain’t nothin’ like Barbie Land. It’s messy and complicated, and people ain’t always nice.

And that’s where the movie gets ya thinkin’. It shows you how hard it is to be a woman in this world, how people expect you to be perfect all the time. And it shows you how men ain’t always treated fair either. They got their own set of problems. We all just people tryin’ to figure things out.

So, is it okay for Christians to see it?

Well, like I said, it ain’t for everyone. If you’re easily offended, or if you think movies should only be about sunshine and rainbows, then maybe you should skip it. But if you’re willing to think a little, and if you’re willing to see things from a different perspective, then I say go for it.

It’s a conversation starter. You watch this movie, and then you talk about it with your friends, with your family, with your pastor. You ask yourself, what does this movie say about God? What does it say about how we should treat each other?

This Colleen Strachan lady, she reviewed the movie too. I don’t know her from Adam, but she’s got her own ideas about it. And that’s okay. We all got our own ideas. The important thing is to think for yourself, to pray about it, and to see if it lines up with what you believe.

This movie, it ain’t gonna change your faith, one way or another. But it might just make you think a little harder about what it means to be a Christian in this world. It might make you a little more compassionate, a little more understanding. And that, I reckon, is a good thing. It shows ya that even in a world full of pink plastic, there’s still room for God’s love. You gotta look for it, but it’s there.

So go on, see the movie if you want. Or don’t. It ain’t gonna make you a better or worse person. But it might just open your eyes to some things you ain’t thought about before. And that’s never a bad thing, is it?

And listen, don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t watch. You got a brain, use it. You got a heart, listen to it. And you got God, pray to Him about it. That’s all there is to it, no need to make it more complicated than that.
