Alright, so you wanna know about gettin’ a job at this Netflix place, huh? As a product manager, they call it. Sounds fancy, but don’t you worry, I’ll break it down for ya.

First off, they gonna ask you a whole bunch of questions, like “what did you do before?” and stuff like that. They wanna see if you’re any good, I guess. It ain’t rocket science, just gotta tell ’em what you done did. You know, like, “I fixed this problem” or “I made that thing better.” Gotta show ’em you ain’t just sittin’ around twiddlin’ your thumbs.

They got this thing called “Netflix culture,” whatever that means. Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me, but you gotta play along. They gonna ask you how you act, how you work with other folks. Just be yourself, I say, but maybe a little bit nicer. Don’t go tellin’ ’em your boss is a nincompoop, even if he is.

Now, I heard tell they got some special questions they like to ask. Stuff like, “how would you make Netflix better?” Well, that’s easy, put more of them cowboy shows on, I say! But seriously, you gotta think about it. What’s wrong with Netflix now? What could be better? Maybe the search thingy don’t work so good, or maybe they need more shows for old folks like me. Just spitballin’ here.

  • Think about problems. What’s broken? What could be better?
  • Look at what other folks are doin’. You know, those other movie places? What are they doin’ right? What are they doin’ wrong?
  • Talk to people. Ask your friends, your neighbors, even that loudmouth down the street. What do they like about Netflix? What do they hate?

They also wanna know if you can solve problems. That’s what a manager does, I reckon. So, they might give you some made-up problem and ask you how you’d fix it. Like, “what if nobody’s watchin’ this new show we made?” Well, maybe it’s just a bad show! But you can’t say that. You gotta come up with some ideas, like “maybe we need to tell more people about it” or “maybe we need to put it in a better spot on the screen.”

I heard some folks talk about a book, somethin’ about “crackin’ the PM interview.” Sounds like a lot of work to me. But if you’re really serious about this job, maybe you should read it. Just don’t go gettin’ all highfalutin on me, talkin’ all that fancy book learnin’ talk. Keep it simple, that’s what I say.

And don’t forget to do your homework. Know somethin’ about Netflix. What kind of shows they got, how much they cost, that kind of stuff. It’s like goin’ to a party, you don’t wanna show up empty-handed. You gotta bring somethin’ to the table.

They say this whole interview thing can take a while. Guess they gotta make sure you’re the right fit, whatever that means. Just be patient and keep your chin up. And if they don’t hire you, well, their loss, I say. There’s plenty of other jobs out there, maybe even one that don’t require you to read no fancy books.

So, that’s the long and short of it. Be yourself, be smart, and be ready to talk about what you done did. And for goodness sake, don’t forget to smile. Even if you’re nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rockin’ chairs.

Oh, and one more thing. They might try to trick ya with fancy words and stuff. Don’t let ’em. Just tell ’em what you think, plain and simple. That’s what I always do, and it’s gotten me this far, ain’t it?

This Netflix place, they got all these teams and whatnot, and they like folks who can lead. So, show ’em you can take charge, but not in a bossy way, you know? Like, you can help folks work together and get things done. That’s what they want, I figure.

So, good luck to ya. Hope you get that fancy job. And if you do, maybe you can get me a free Netflix account. I’m tired of watchin’ the same old reruns on TV.

And remember, if you get stuck on a question, just take a deep breath and think about it. Don’t just blurt out the first thing that comes to your mind. Unless it’s a good answer, of course. Then go ahead and blurt away!

They wanna see that you can think on your feet and that you ain’t afraid to speak up. So, don’t be shy. Tell ’em what you think, even if it’s a little bit crazy. Sometimes the craziest ideas are the best ones.

Now, I gotta go. My stories are comin’ on. But you remember what I told ya. And you go get that job!
