Okay, so the other day, I got this idea stuck in my head: “Horror movie poster art.” I’m not sure where it came from, but I was hooked. I wanted to see what I could do with this theme. So, I started by collecting some examples.

I went down a rabbit hole on the internet, looking at all sorts of horror movie posters. Some were super simple, like the one for “Evil Dead II.” It’s just a scary-looking skull, but it totally works. Others were more complex, with all sorts of creepy images mixed together. I saved a bunch of them to a folder on my computer.

  • “Evil Dead II” – Simple but effective, just a skull.
  • Others – More complex, lots of imagery.

Then, I started thinking about what makes a good horror movie poster. I figured it’s all about grabbing your attention with something shocking or just plain creepy. Like, you see it, and you’re immediately intrigued or disturbed. It needs to set the tone for the movie.

I also noticed a lot of these posters used a similar font. Turns out, it’s called ITC Serif Gothic. Apparently, it’s a classic for horror movies, especially since the movie “Halloween.”

Experiment Time

Now came the fun part. I decided to try and make my own poster. First I tried to imitate the poster for “Evil Dead II” since it is very simple and effective. I found a similar skull picture online and put a dark red background behind it. It took me less than 5 minutes to make and I was quite happy with my work.

Next, I wanted to make something original. I messed around in my image editor, trying different combinations of scary pictures and fonts. It was a lot of trial and error. I’d put something together, step back, and think, “Nah, that’s not it.” Then I’d try something else. It was a bit of a mess, but a fun mess.

After a few hours, I finally had something I liked. It wasn’t perfect, but it had that creepy vibe I was going for. I used that ITC Serif Gothic font, of course. I mean, you gotta stick with the classics, right?

So, that’s my little adventure into the world of horror movie poster art. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon, and I learned a few things along the way. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime. Who knows, maybe I’ll even come up with something really cool next time.

Anyway, that’s my story. Hope you enjoyed it. Or, at least, I hope it didn’t bore you too much. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go watch a horror movie. After all this, I’m in the mood for one.
