Well, let me tell ya ’bout them cornfield horror movies. I ain’t no fancy movie critic, ya know, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. But some of them movies, they just stick with ya, like burrs on a wool sweater.

Scary movies, that’s what they call ’em. And when you got cornfields in ’em, well, it just gets a whole lot creepier. You know, cornfields, they’re tall and thick. You can get lost in ’em real easy. And that’s when the bad stuff starts happenin’.

One movie, “Children of the Corn”, they say it’s a classic. I watched it once, kinda gave me the shivers. Kids, you know, they’re supposed to be sweet and innocent. But not these kids. They were somethin’ else, somethin’ evil livin’ in that cornfield. No grown-ups around, just them kids and their creepy ways. It made me think twice about lettin’ the grandkids wander off too far in the fields durin’ harvest time, I tell ya.

Then there’s that “Sleepy Hollow” movie. Now, that one had a scary fella with no head, ridin’ a horse through the corn. And wouldn’t ya know it, that cornfield is right there at the beginnin’. Gave me a jump, it did. That headless horseman, he was somethin’ else. Not somethin’ you see every day, thank the Lord.

  • Isolation, that’s the word. Cornfields make you feel all alone, like nobody can hear you scream. And that’s what them movie makers like, I reckon. They want you to feel scared, lost, and helpless. And cornfields, they do the trick.
  • Entrapment, that’s another thing. Once you’re in that corn, it’s hard to get out. The stalks are tall and close together, and you can’t see nothin’ but corn, corn, and more corn. You’re trapped, like a rat in a maze. And that’s when the monsters come out to play.

They got another one called “Scary Movie”. Now, this one’s a bit different. It’s supposed to be funny, they say. But even with the funny stuff, them cornfields still give me the creeps. They make fun of other scary movies, but they still use them cornfields to get ya. It’s like they know them cornfields just work, ya know?

And then there’s all sorts of others, like “In the Tall Grass”, makes you think twice about wanderin’ off the path, and “Signs”, where them aliens are hidin’ in the corn. Aliens, can you believe it? It’s always somethin’, ain’t it? And this “Dark Harvest”, sounds spooky just hearin’ the name. Makes me think of all them stories they used to tell round the fire at night, back in the day.

Vulnerability, that’s what them cornfields bring out in ya. You’re out there in the open, but you can’t see nothin’. You’re vulnerable, like a newborn lamb. And the bad guys, they know it. They can sneak up on ya, and you won’t even know they’re there ’til it’s too late.

Some folks like them scary monsters and creepy villains. Others like them scary storms and such. But all them cornfield horror movies got one thing in common: them cornfields! They’re the real stars of the show, if you ask me. They set the mood, they create the suspense, and they make you wanna hide under the covers.

Someone even told me about a movie called “Fear Pharm”, about a corn maze at Halloween where folks get picked off one by one. Now, corn mazes are supposed to be fun, but this one, well, it sounds like a nightmare come true. Just the thought of it gives me the goosebumps.

There’s even one for the youngsters, “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”, they call it PG-13, whatever that means. Still got them spooky things, but maybe not as bad as the others. I guess even the young’uns like a good scare now and then, long as it ain’t too scary.

And let’s not forget about them scarecrows. Sometimes them movie makers put scarecrows in the cornfields, and them scarecrows, they ain’t friendly. They got these evil eyes and these sharp teeth, and they just stand there, starin’ at ya. Gives me the creeps, I tell ya.

So, if you’re lookin’ for a good scare, go watch yourself one of them cornfield horror movies. But don’t say I didn’t warn ya. Them cornfields, they’re somethin’ else. They’ll get to ya, they will. And you might just find yourself lookin’ over your shoulder next time you’re walkin’ past a cornfield, even in broad daylight.

Heck, after watchin’ these things, I even find myself lookin’ twice at my own cornfields out back. Never can be too careful, ya know?
