So, I was thinking about catching a flick and thought, “Why not see what’s being shot around here in DC?” I mean, it’s not every day you get to see movie magic in action, right?
First, I hit up the usual spots online to see what movies are coming out soon. Looks like there’s this new “Wallace & Gromit” thing, “Vengeance Most,” set to release between December 18th and 24th. Gotta love those two! Then there is a new movie of “Harry Potter and the Deathly.”
What’s Filming in DC in 2024?
I dug a little deeper. It mentioned something about a list of American films for 2024. The year featured a diverse array of cinematic productions. Seems like DC’s been a popular spot for filmmakers this year.
Then I stumbled upon this thing called FilmLA. Apparently, they’ve got this service that tells you when and where filming is happening in your neighborhood. It’s called Neighborhood Notification.
So I signed up for it. You just give ’em your address, and they’ll supposedly let you know if anything’s going down nearby. Pretty neat, huh? Although I did wonder how accurate it’d be.
After signing up, I decided to take a walk around the National Mall. I mean, that’s where they always film the big action scenes, right? Didn’t see any cameras or famous faces, but I did spot a few areas that looked like they could’ve been used for a movie set recently. Maybe some scaffolding or something.
Later that week, I got an alert from FilmLA. Said there was going to be some filming for an “Untitled Political Thriller” near Capitol Hill. How very DC! I grabbed my camera and headed over.
Found the spot. Lots of trailers, crew members buzzing around, and even a few actors in suits looking all serious. Didn’t recognize anyone famous, though. I snapped a few pics from a distance, trying not to be too obvious. Don’t want to get in trouble with security or anything.
Hung around for a couple of hours, watching them film a scene where some people in suits were having a heated discussion on the steps of a building. Looked intense! I even managed to overhear someone say they were going to be filming at the Lincoln Memorial the next day.
So, the next day, I went to the Lincoln Memorial. Sure enough, there they were! This time, I spotted a recognizable actor—can’t say who, but let’s just say he’s been in a few big movies. Watched them film a scene where he was giving a speech to a small crowd. Pretty cool to see it all up close.
All in all, it was a fun little adventure. Didn’t get to be an extra or anything, but it was still cool to see how movies are made right here in my own city. Makes you appreciate all the work that goes into them. Plus, now I’ve got some fun stories to tell. Maybe I’ll even become a regular film-location hunter. Who knows?
