Well now, this new Wonka movie, I hear folks been talkin’ ’bout it. Some folks say it’s “woke,” but I gotta tell ya, after seein’ that trailer, I’m not so sure about that. Now, I ain’t no fancy critic, but let me tell ya what I think about all this woke talk and this here new Wonka movie.

First off, for those of you who might not know, this new movie is supposed to be a prequel to that old one with Gene Wilder. Y’all remember that one, don’t ya? I can still picture him in that purple coat, singing that “Pure Imagination” song. Now, they got Timothée Chalamet playin’ a young Willy Wonka, and folks are wonderin’ if it’s all gonna be woke or not. Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t what I expected.

Woke or Not?

Now, when people throw around the word “woke,” what they usually mean is that they think the movie’s gonna be pushin’ some newfangled ideas about gender and race and all that stuff. And I’ll admit, some movies sure do have that feel. But, I gotta tell ya, I don’t see much of that in this here Wonka flick. No, sir. There ain’t no same-sex romance or any of that sort in this one. It looks like they kept things simple, like they used to do in the old days. It’s just good ol’ fashioned fun, the way movies used to be.

Some folks been stirrin’ the pot, though. You see, there’s this character played by Hugh Grant, and some people got a little upset ’cause they sayin’ it ain’t right to have him play a little tiny man with CGI. They sayin’ it woulda been better to have someone with dwarfism play the part for real. I ain’t no expert on these things, but I reckon maybe they shoulda thought about that. But who knows, maybe Hugh Grant was happy with the role. It’s a bit of a sticky situation, like when folks argue about whether we should be eatin’ with plastic spoons or not. It don’t change much at the end of the day, does it?

What’s So Special About This One?

Now, a lot of folks are sayin’ this new Wonka movie is special, and I gotta agree with ’em. They say it’s got heart, and that’s something hard to come by these days. The movie’s supposed to be a mix of humor and emotion, and let me tell ya, if it’s done right, that’s a beautiful thing. It’s like when you go to a family reunion and you can laugh at the old stories, but you also feel that warm, cozy feeling in your heart.

Some people been sayin’ it don’t come close to the Gene Wilder classic, but what do they expect? That was a masterpiece, and ain’t nothing gonna replace that. But this new one, from what I hear, it’s got a special kind of charm to it. It’s like one of those Paddington movies. You know, the ones that make you smile and feel good, even if you’re having a rough day. That’s the kind of movie I’d wanna watch when the snow’s fallin’ outside and I’m curled up with a cup of tea.

Why It Might Be Worth Watchin’

  • If you like whimsical stories that don’t try to shove politics down your throat, this one’s for you.
  • If you’ve got kids, this might just be the perfect movie to watch with ’em, since it’s got that good balance of fun and heartwarming moments.
  • Timothée Chalamet looks like he’s doin’ a fine job, and if you like him in other movies, you might enjoy him here too.
  • If you’ve got a soft spot for Christmas movies, they say this one might be the perfect holiday treat to watch with the whole family.

So, is it woke? Well, I don’t think so, not in the way some folks might be worried about. Is it good? From what I hear, yeah, it’s got some good things goin’ for it. I reckon it’ll be a nice movie to watch on a cold winter’s night, just sittin’ back and enjoyin’ the ride. But like anything, you’ll have to watch it yourself and decide if it’s for you.

At the end of the day, it’s all about whether it makes you feel somethin’, right? Whether it makes you smile or laugh or even get a little teary-eyed. And if this movie can do that, then I’d say it’s a win in my book, woke or not.
