Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole Netflix and ads thing, and I wanted to see if uBlock Origin could actually block those annoying ads. Here’s what happened:
First off, I had to deal with Netflix forcing me onto their ad plan. Not cool, Netflix, not cool. Anyway, I fired up Firefox and started watching. Sure enough, two preroll ads popped up right away. I was like, “Alright, time to put uBlock Origin to the test.”
I already had uBlock Origin installed, but I wanted to make sure it was working right. So, I did a little digging. I found out that uBlock Origin basically cancels ad requests before they even leave your browser.
Next, I started experimenting. I kept refreshing the Netflix page, hoping those ads would just disappear. Some folks online said to “Refresh constantly until the ads stop showing up.” So I did that. I just kept hitting refresh, refresh, refresh. And guess what? It actually started working! The ads started showing up less and less. I mean, uBlock Origin was really doing its thing, blocking those network requests like a champ.
- Installed uBlock Origin (if you don’t have it already, it’s available for Chrome, Firefox, and a bunch of other browsers).
- Went to Netflix and started watching something.
- Got hit with ads (ugh).
- Kept refreshing the page.
- Watched as uBlock Origin started blocking more and more ads.
Honestly, I was pretty impressed. I didn’t think it would be that simple, but it kinda was. Now, I’m not saying this is a perfect solution. I’m sure Netflix will try to find ways around it. Also, some people told me that I could provide them with the ads link/show name to investigate further if the ads appear again. But for now, uBlock Origin seems to be doing a decent job of blocking those pesky Netflix ads.
So, if you’re stuck on the Netflix ad plan and you’re tired of those interruptions, you might want to give uBlock Origin a try. It’s not rocket science, and it might just save you some frustration. Just keep in mind that it’s a cat-and-mouse game, and Netflix might come up with new tricks. But hey, for now, it’s a win in my book!
