Alright, let’s talk about this movie in the park thing in Salem, Oregon. You know, the one they have down by the river. Yeah, Riverfront Park, that’s it. They show movies there in the summer, like when it’s warm and the kids are outta school.
I heard tell they got all sorts of movies. Big ones, little ones, funny ones, sad ones. You name it, they probably show it. Some fella was tellin’ me they showed that Barbie movie. You know, the one with all the pink? My granddaughter, she loves that pink stuff. And that Wonka movie, about the chocolate guy. Kids seem to like that one too. They even had some cartoon-lookin’ movie called Elemental. Don’t know nothin’ about that one, but the young’uns probably do.
They do it in the evenin’, when the sun starts goin’ down. Makes sense, I guess. Can’t see no movie when the sun’s beatin’ down on ya. They say on their website when the movie gonna start, but you know them times ain’t always right. Sun goes down when it goes down, that’s what I always say.
It’s free, you know. Don’t cost nothin’ to go watch. That’s a good thing, ’cause money don’t grow on trees, last I checked. You just bring your own blanket, or maybe a chair, and find yourself a spot on the grass. Lots of folks bring their kids, and they all run around ‘fore the movie starts. It’s kinda nice, seein’ all them families together.
They do it in July and August, mostly. Hot months, good for bein’ outside. This year, they started in June, which is early if you ask me. But I ain’t complainin’. The more movies, the better, I say. They show ’em at that amphitheater place too, Gerry Frank somethin’-or-other. Seems like they got movies all over town!
- Free movies: Can’t beat that, can ya?
- Family-friendly: Lots of kids runnin’ around.
- Summertime fun: Good way to spend a warm evenin’.
- Riverfront Park: Pretty spot by the water.
I heard tell they filmed a movie in Salem a long time ago, somethin’ about a cuckoo’s nest. They filmed it at the hospital, that’s what they said. That was way back when, though. This movie in the park thing is new, just a few years old I reckon.
Now, I ain’t been to one of these movies myself. My old bones don’t like sittin’ on the ground too much. But I hear folks talkin’ about it, and it sounds like a good time. Specially for the young’uns. Gets ’em outta the house and away from them screens for a while. That’s a good thing in my book. Kids these days, they spend too much time starin’ at them phones and whatnots. Need to get some fresh air and sunshine, that’s what they need.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do on a summer evenin’ in Salem, Oregon, go check out that movie in the park. It’s free, it’s fun, and it’s a good way to spend some time with your family. And if you see me hobblin’ by, don’t be shy. Say hello. I might just join ya for a bit, if my back ain’t hurtin’ too bad.
They got it all set up real nice, down by the water there. You can see the river and everything. It’s real peaceful, ‘cept for when the kids start screamin’. But that’s just kids bein’ kids, I guess. Nothin’ wrong with a little bit of noise. Makes things lively.
And they got food too, sometimes. Popcorn and hot dogs and stuff like that. Smells real good, even if I can’t eat half that stuff anymore. My stomach ain’t what it used to be. But it’s nice to see the young folks enjoyin’ themselves. That’s what matters, ain’t it?
So, there you have it. That’s the lowdown on the movie in the park in Salem, Oregon. Go check it out if you get a chance. You might just have a good time. And if you don’t, well, you ain’t lost nothin’ but a little bit of time. And time’s somethin’ we all got plenty of, right? At least, that’s what I tell myself when I’m sittin’ here rockin’ on my porch.
Anyways, I gotta go now. Got chores to do and whatnot. But you folks have a good day, and maybe I’ll see ya down by the river sometime. You never know. Life’s funny that way.
