Okay, so I’ve been meaning to watch this movie, “El Retrato de Dorian Gray,” the one on Netflix. I finally got around to it last night. Honestly, I was a little confused about what to expect. I’d heard of the book, you know, the classic one, but never actually read it. Figured the movie would be a good way to get the gist.
First off, I had to find it on Netflix. That took a second because, for some reason, my brain kept typing “Dorian Grey” instead of “Gray.” Silly me! Anyway, I found it and hit play.
The Start
The beginning was kinda slow, I’m not gonna lie. They introduce this Dorian Gray guy, and he’s like, super handsome and all that. He meets this painter, Basil, who’s like, obsessed with painting him. It was a bit weird, but I went with it. There’s also this other guy, Lord Henry, who seems to be a bad influence right from the start. He’s all about pleasure and living life to the fullest, no matter what.
Getting into the story
So, Basil paints this amazing portrait of Dorian, and Dorian makes this wish that the painting would age instead of him. He wants to stay young and beautiful forever. And guess what? It actually works! I know, crazy right?
- Dorian starts living this wild, hedonistic life.
- He falls in love with an actress, Sibyl, but that ends tragically.
- He does all these messed up things, but he doesn’t age a day.
- The painting, though, starts to look hideous, reflecting all the bad stuff he’s done.
The End
Eventually, Dorian can’t take it anymore. He’s haunted by what he’s become and what the painting shows. In the end, he tries to destroy the painting, but it ends up killing him. The painting goes back to looking like the perfect Dorian, and Dorian himself turns into this old, decrepit monster.
It was a pretty intense movie, definitely a lot darker than I expected. It really makes you think about the price of vanity and the consequences of our choices. I’m still processing it, to be honest. Maybe I should actually read the book now to get a better understanding of the whole story. But yeah, that was my experience watching “El Retrato de Dorian Gray.” Worth a watch if you’re into that kind of thing, but be prepared for some heavy stuff!
