Okay, so I was scrolling through my phone the other day, and I got this ad about finding female horror movie costume ideas. It got me thinking about Halloween and what I wanted to dress up as this year. I’ve always loved horror movies, especially the classic ones with iconic female characters. So, I decided to do some digging and see what kind of costumes I could put together.

First, I started brainstorming some of my favorite horror movies with memorable female characters. I made a list and jotted down some ideas that popped into my head. I came up with characters like the Bride of Frankenstein, Carrie White, and Regan from The Exorcist. These are all pretty recognizable, so I knew I could find some good inspiration.

Researching and Gathering Materials

Next, I began researching each character to get a better idea of their specific looks. I googled images and watched some movie clips to refresh my memory. I paid close attention to the details of their clothing, hair, and makeup. It was actually kind of fun going back and revisiting these movies.

Once I had a good visual of each character, I started thinking about where I could find the materials for the costumes. I checked out some online stores. I also figured I could probably find some good stuff at local thrift stores or maybe even in my own closet. It’s always cool when I can just sort of DIY things myself without spending much.

  • Bride of Frankenstein: For this one, I thought I could find a long white dress and maybe use some hairspray and white hair dye to get that iconic updo. A little white face paint and some dark lipstick would complete the look.
  • Carrie White: This one is all about the prom dress covered in blood. I figured I could find a simple pink dress and then just douse it in fake blood. The key here is really selling the messy, blood-soaked look.
  • Regan (The Exorcist): A simple nightgown with some pale face makeup and messed-up hair. But I know I also need to add the vomit stains.

Putting It All Together

After gathering all the materials, it was time to put the costumes together. I tried on the different outfits and experimented with the makeup. It took a few tries to get the looks just right, but it was a fun process. I even got my friend to help me with the hair for the Bride of Frankenstein costume since that one was a bit more complicated. Let me tell you, messing with your hair like that is tough.

I ended up with three pretty solid costumes. It took some time to put them all together. The best part was I was able to create these costumes without breaking the bank. Thrifting and DIYing really helped keep the costs down. And honestly, I think the homemade aspect makes them even better. Now, I just have to decide which one to wear for Halloween! Maybe I’ll wear a different one each day of the week!
