Okay, so I was feeling a movie night and thought, “Why not check out what’s new at Redbox?” I usually just swing by the kiosk, but I heard you could actually browse and even stream stuff directly from their site now. Figured it was worth a shot to see what the fuss was about.

First off, I headed over to the Redbox website. Honestly, it’s pretty straightforward. You’ve got your usual categories and a search bar if you’ve got something specific in mind. Since I was in the mood for something fresh, I clicked on the “New Releases” section.

What I Found

  • Tenet (2020) – Directed by Christopher Nolan, starring John David. I’ve heard mixed things about this one, but it’s Nolan, so I’m curious.
  • The Fall Guy (2024) – This one just came out, so it’s definitely on my list to check out.
  • Old (2021) – I remember hearing about this movie. Sounds pretty wild.
  • Cuckoo (2024) – Another new one. Might be a good one to watch.

They also have some classics like “The Godfather” and “Pulp Fiction,” which is cool if you’re feeling nostalgic. I scrolled through the list for a bit, but those new ones caught my eye the most.

Streaming vs. Kiosk

Here’s the thing, though. While I was browsing, I noticed that the selection online seems a bit different than what you might find at the actual kiosk. It’s like, some movies are only available for rent at the physical locations. I guess movie companies aren’t sending out as many DVDs to them anymore. It’s probably way easier and cheaper for them to just sell the rights to places like Amazon, Netflix, or Hulu. Makes sense, but it’s kind of a bummer if you’re used to just hitting up the Redbox machine.

Anyway, I ended up choosing to stream a movie directly from the site. It was super easy – just picked my movie, paid the rental fee, and started watching. No need to leave the house, which was nice. I know some folks prefer the whole kiosk experience, but honestly, for a lazy night in, streaming was pretty convenient.

So yeah, that’s my Redbox adventure for the night. If you’re looking for something new to watch and don’t feel like going out, definitely check out their website. Just keep in mind that the selection might vary a bit between online and the kiosk, and streaming might be the way to go for some of the newer releases.
