Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya somethin’ about these found footage horror movies. You know, the ones that look all shaky and real, like somebody just filmed it with their phone or somethin’? Yeah, those. They been makin’ a whole bunch of ’em lately, ever since that Blair Witch thing and that Paranormal Activity scared the pants off everyone. Even that Netflix thing, they got a whole mess of ’em, like that Incantation one from Taiwan, and that Turkish one, Dabbe somethin’ or other. Scary stuff, I tell ya.
Now, this year, 2024, they got even more of these shaky camera movies. One’s called Strange Harvest. It’s about some kinda murder out in the Inland Empire, you know, out California way. They say it’s like one of them documentaries, but also scary. So, it’s a “mocku-mentary,” they call it. Fancy word, huh? Sounds like somethin’ the city folk would say. Basically, it’s a fake documentary, but it’s supposed to look real, you see?
Then there’s all sorts of other ones comin’ out. Heard tell of one called Blue Whale. Sounds fishy, don’t it? But it ain’t about no fish. It’s about some girl, Dana, and she’s all upset ’cause her sister died. Rebellious, they say she is. Kids these days, always causin’ trouble. Anyway, I bet it’s got lots of screamin’ and runnin’ around in the dark. That’s how these movies go, ya know.
- Scary Movies This Year: They got a whole bunch of ’em. The Substance, Longlegs, all sorts of names I can’t even pronounce. Too many, if you ask me. Folks like gettin’ scared, I guess.
- Big Names Comin’ Back: Heard that fella, Robert Eggers, he’s got a new one comin’ out on Christmas Day. Nosferatu, it’s called. Sounds like somethin’ foreign, but probably about vampires or somethin’. They always make a comeback, them vampires.
And let me tell ya, 2024, it’s just been chock-full of these horror movies. Seems like every week there’s a new one comin’ out. Some are good, some are bad, some are just plain silly. But folks keep watchin’ ’em. I don’t know why, myself. Gives me the heebie-jeebies.
I remember this one time, I saw one of them shaky camera movies, and I swear, I couldn’t sleep for a week! It was all about some ghost in a house, and the camera kept shakin’ and the people kept screamin’. It was awful! But I couldn’t look away neither. That’s the thing about these movies, they get ya hooked, even if you don’t wanna be. They make ya feel like you’re right there with the people in the movie, runnin’ and hidin’ and screamin’ your head off. And that shaky camera, it makes it feel real, you know? Like it could happen to anybody.
So, what makes these movies so scary? I reckon it’s ’cause they seem real. Ain’t no fancy special effects, just a camera and some folks gettin’ scared. And that shaky camera, it makes you feel like you’re right there with ’em, you know? Like you’re part of the story. And that’s what gets ya. That’s what makes your heart race and your palms sweat.
I ain’t no expert on movies or nothin’, but I know what scares me. And these found footage movies, they sure do the trick. They make ya think about what’s lurkin’ in the dark, what’s hidin’ just around the corner. And that’s a scary thought, ain’t it? So, if you’re lookin’ for a good scare, go ahead and watch one of these 2024 found footage horror movies. Just don’t blame me if you can’t sleep at night.
One fella, Luis Javier Henaine, made a movie that’s kinda like those old ones from Craven and Carpenter fellas. It’s about these men who think they know it all, but they don’t know nothin’. Always a recipe for disaster, that is. The movie is called Disappear Completely. Sounds cheerful, don’t it? Probably not.
Anyways, that’s all I gotta say about these shaky camera movies. They’re spooky, they’re jumpy, and they’re everywhere this year. You been warned!
