Okay, so I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, and today I finally went for it. The idea? Find some cool spots where they filmed movies right here in Victoria. I’m a bit of a movie buff, and I love exploring, so it seemed like the perfect weekend project.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed a list. So I started by using some research to figure out the names of these movies。
This gave me some solid leads, but not a lot of specifics about where in Victoria these scenes were shot.
Digging Deeper
Next, I started digging into each movie. I found some fan forums and a couple of dedicated websites – these were goldmines! People were posting screenshots and trying to match them up with real-world locations, often using street view and stuff. It was like a little online detective community.
My “Filming Locations” Adventure
Armed with my list and a whole bunch of notes, I grabbed my camera and headed out. My plan was to visit as many locations as I could and try to get some comparison shots.
- First Stop Started with the film loaction. This place is pretty iconic, and it was actually easier to find than I expected. Stood right where the camera would have been – felt pretty cool!
- Next Up: Then I try to find the spots. Man, this one was tougher. The area has changed a lot since the movie was filmed. Buildings have been torn down, new ones put up… it was hard to get my bearings. I spent a good hour just wandering around, comparing old photos to what I was seeing. Finally, I think I found the general area, but it wasn’t an exact match.
- Success (and a bit of luck): I had a bit of a breakthrough with place. I’d found a blog post mentioning a specific cafe that was used in a scene. I tracked down the cafe (still there, thankfully!), and the owner was super helpful. He pointed me to a nearby alleyway that was also used – total score!
The Results
By the end of the day, I was exhausted, but I’d managed to visit quite a few locations. I got some decent comparison shots, and I learned a ton about how much (or how little) some parts of the city have changed. It’s kinda crazy to think that these everyday places were once part of a movie set.
This whole experience has really made me appreciate the magic of filmmaking. They can take ordinary spots and transform them into something completely different. I’m definitely going to keep exploring – maybe I’ll even make a little video series out of it. Who knows!
