Okay, so, I was messing around with some ideas for a horror movie, you know, something a little different. And I got really into this whole “fungi” thing. I mean, they’re everywhere, right? And some of them are seriously creepy. I started out just jotting down some thoughts on March 16th. The first thing I did was to hit up the internet, just to see what was already out there. Typed in “fungi horror movie” and, bam, tons of stuff. Mostly just lists of movies, though, not a lot of detailed plots. There are all these horror movies made in these 20 years, like, 298 of them. I started making a list of movies that might have a fungi theme, although there are so many, I can’t list them all.
I did stumble upon a few interesting concepts. One was about a post-apocalyptic world, and another was set in a bunker where scientists are trying to find a cure for a plague. These got me thinking about how fungi could play a role in those kinds of scenarios. I was picturing some nasty outbreaks and mutations. There is even a movie that takes place in the Swedish archipelago. I think I can add some mushroom elements to it.
Then, I found this other thing about magic mushrooms and how they’re used in movies, sometimes for good, sometimes not. And there’s also this British biologist character looking for a special blue mushroom in Tasmania. Apparently, fungi have all these crazy abilities and might even help solve some of humanity’s problems. Who knew?
My initial idea
- Setting: A remote research facility in a dense forest.
- Characters: A small team of scientists studying a new species of fungus.
- Plot: The fungus turns out to be not so friendly. Maybe it infects people, or maybe it creates some kind of monstrous creature.
I played around with this for a while, adding some details here and there. I thought about having the fungus release spores that mess with people’s minds, making them see things or turn on each other. It’s still rough, but I like where it’s going.
Developing the story further
- Added a twist: One of the scientists has a secret agenda. They want to weaponize the fungus for some shady organization.
- Introduced a local legend: The forest is rumored to be haunted by the spirits of people who died there long ago. Maybe the fungus is connected to that somehow.
- Created a monster: A mutated creature formed from the fungus and the remains of a dead animal. It’s big, it’s fast, and it’s hungry.
After adding these elements, the story started to feel more complete. I even sketched out some scenes, like the discovery of the fungus, the first infection, and the final showdown with the monster. Then, I found that movie information website, and it’s like a gold mine. You can find reviews, ratings, and all that. It’s a good place to get inspiration and see what other people are doing. They can provide me with ideas and recommendations for new movies to watch.
This whole process has been a blast. I started with a simple idea, and now I have this whole world built around it. I’m no expert, just a guy with a lot of time on his hands, but it’s been fun to explore the possibilities. Fungi are way more interesting than I ever thought.
