Today, I watched the movie “Her” again. You know, the one where the dude falls for his computer. And as always, it got me thinking about the clothes. I mean, they’re so simple, but they really set the mood. So, I got this itch to recreate some of those looks. Figured it’d be a fun little project.
Digging into the Looks
First thing I did was watch the movie again, but this time, I was really paying attention to what everyone was wearing. I paused it a bunch, took some screenshots, and scribbled down notes about the colors and styles. Lots of high-waisted pants, for sure, and those shirts with the collars. They felt kind of retro, but also futuristic. Weird mix, but it worked.
Hitting the Stores
Next up, I went hunting for similar stuff. I hit up a few thrift stores, ’cause I figured that’s where I’d find those older styles. Found a couple of shirts that were close, but not quite right. Then I checked out some regular stores. No luck with the pants. Everything was either too low-rise or just not the right vibe. But I did find some shirts that were kind of similar. Still, it was a bit of a bust.
Getting Crafty
Since I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, I figured I’d try making some stuff myself. I’m no tailor, but I can handle a sewing machine. I got some fabric that looked like it matched the colors from the movie. Then I tried to modify some patterns I found to make them look more like the clothes from the film. It was a lot of trial and error. I messed up a few times, had to rip out seams and start over. But eventually, I managed to make a shirt that looked pretty close to what Theodore wears in the movie. The pants were trickier. I tried altering a pair I already had, but it didn’t really work out. Still, I think with more practice, I could get it.
Styling It Out
Once I had a few pieces that I was happy with, I started playing around with putting outfits together. I tried to copy some of the looks from the movie as closely as possible. It was actually kind of fun seeing myself in those outfits. They definitely felt different from what I usually wear. Kind of made me feel like I was in a different world, you know?
Wrapping Up
So, yeah, that’s how I spent my weekend – diving into the world of “Her” and trying to bring a little piece of it into my own closet. It was a cool little experiment. Showed me how much work goes into designing clothes for movies and how clothes can really change the feel of a scene. Plus, I learned a bit more about sewing and got a few new pieces to wear. Not a bad way to spend a few days, I’d say.
