Alright, so, I’ve been wanting to do something fun with my buddies for a while now, and with Halloween coming up, I got this idea to do a horror movie bracket. You know, like those sports brackets but with scary movies.
First thing I did was brainstorm a bunch of horror flicks. I tried to cover all the bases – classics, new stuff, slashers, psychological thrillers, the whole shebang. Ended up with way more than I needed, but hey, better to have too many than too few, right?
Next, I had to narrow it down. This was tough. I mean, how do you choose between “The Exorcist” and “The Shining”? It’s like choosing a favorite child! Anyway, I argued with myself for a while and finally whittled it down to 32 movies. I made sure to include a good mix of different types of horror, so it wouldn’t just be all the same kind of scares.
Then came the fun part – making the actual bracket. I used some online bracket generator, nothing fancy. I seeded the movies based on, well, how much they freak me out, mostly. There was also some consideration for their reputation and popularity among my group of friends, no strict rules were followed. It’s all for fun.
Once the bracket was set, I sent it out to my friends. I made a simple rule: everyone votes on each matchup, and the movie with the most votes moves on. Pretty standard stuff.
- Round 1: This was a bloodbath. Some obvious winners, but a few upsets too. Like, “The Babadook” beat out “Halloween” in my group. I was shocked, but also kinda proud of my friends for having such diverse taste.
- Round 2: Things got even more intense. The debates in our group chat were epic. “Alien” vs. “The Thing” was a particularly tough one. In the end, “The Thing” won out, but it was close.
- Sweet 16: Now we were getting down to the real contenders. Seeing Sigourney Weaver’s character battling aliens just like Ripley said. A few more surprises here, but mostly the big names were holding strong.
- Elite 8: This is where things got really tough. Every matchup was a battle between titans. I mean, “Psycho” vs. “The Silence of the Lambs”? How do you even choose?
We’re still in the middle of it, so I don’t have a winner to announce yet. But honestly, the best part hasn’t been figuring out which movie is the “scariest” (whatever that means). It’s been the discussions, the debates, and just the fun of sharing our favorite horror movies with each other.
The Result So Far…
We’re down to the Final Four, and it’s a real nail-biter. I won’t spoil who’s still in the running, but let’s just say it’s a good mix of old-school classics and newer favorites. It’s really interesting and exciting to see the winner of the official Speak Film and Enter Best Horror Movie of the 21st Century Bracket.
Anyway, I highly recommend trying this out with your friends. It’s a blast, and it’s a great way to get into the Halloween spirit. Plus, you might discover some new horror gems along the way. Just be prepared for some heated debates!
