Today, I wanted to do something fun with those AI image generators. I had this idea to take classic horror movie posters and remove all the text. You know, just to see how much the visuals really hold up without the titles and taglines.

Getting Started

First, I had to pick some iconic horror movie posters. I went with some of my favorites like “The Exorcist,” “The Shining,” and “Jaws.” I grabbed high-res images of these posters from, you know, just around the internet. Good images to start with are important.

The Main Work

Then, I uploaded them into one of those AI tools that can edit images. There are so many options out there. I can’t remember which tool I used. I used the “remove object” feature. It was pretty straightforward to highlight the text areas I wanted to get rid of. The tools usually have a brush tool for selection. I tried to be careful not to remove parts of the actual images.

  • Uploaded each poster image into the AI tool.
  • Used the brush tool to select text areas.
  • Clicked the “remove” or “generate” button, whatever it’s called.

The Results

The AI did a pretty decent job! Some posters looked great. The “Jaws” one, without the title, is still super effective. You just see that huge shark coming up from the depths. Gives me chills. “The Shining” poster, with just the creepy face in the door, is also really effective on its own.

But some others, not so much. Removing the text made some posters look a bit empty or unfinished. It really highlighted how much the text adds to the overall composition. I think the text is part of the art, not just information.

Finishing Up

After I got all the posters textless, I saved them to my computer. Then, just for fun, I put them side-by-side with the originals in a simple image editor. It was cool to compare them like that.

This was a fun little experiment. I learned that sometimes the text on a movie poster is just as important as the image itself. It’s all part of the experience, I guess. Anyway, if you have some free time, you should try it out. It is pretty easy and fun to do, but it’s amazing to see how much of a difference those words can make!
