Okay, so I was scrolling through my feed the other day, right? And I stumbled upon this trend of making these, like, super offbeat Valentine’s Day cards. And you know me, I’m all about that horror movie life. So, I thought, why not combine the two? I mean, who needs those cheesy, cliché cards when you can have Freddy Krueger whispering sweet nothings, or Jason Voorhees giving you that, um, intense stare?
So, I decided to try and make some of these horror movie Valentine’s Day cards myself. First, I needed some inspiration. I spent, like, a whole afternoon just brainstorming, going through all my favorite horror flicks. I watched some clips, trying to come up with some puns and jokes that would work. It was a blast, honestly. It felt like getting back to the basics, you know?
- Watched “Halloween” for the 100th time, because, Michael Myers, duh.
- Dug out my old “Friday the 13th” DVDs. Still creepy as hell.
- Even revisited some classics like “Frankenstein” and “The Exorcist.”
Then, I started sketching out some designs. I’m no artist, but I figured I could at least get the basic idea across. I used some free design tools online, and played around with different fonts and colors. I wanted that vintage, kinda grimy look, you know? Like something you’d find in an old, dusty attic, or in a dark corner of a haunted house. It’s not perfect, but hey, it’s got that homemade charm, right?
I printed a few test cards, just to see how they’d look in real life. The colors were a bit off at first, so I tweaked the settings a bit. And the paper, oh man, the paper. I went through like three different types before I found one that felt right. I wanted something with a bit of texture, something that felt substantial, not like those flimsy cards you get at the grocery store.
Finally, after a lot of trial and error, I had a set of cards I was actually kinda proud of. I made one with a picture of Pinhead from “Hellraiser” that said, “I’ve got such sights to show you… on our date tonight.” Cheesy, I know, but it made me laugh. And then there’s the one with Candyman, with the line, “Bee my Valentine?” Come on, that’s gold!
A few of my favorites
- One card with a picture of Leatherface, and it says, “I’m dying to meat you.” Get it? Meat? Because, chainsaw? Yeah, maybe it’s a bit dark, but that’s the point, right?
- Another one features Ghostface from “Scream,” with the line, “What’s your favorite scary movie… and can I be in it with you?” A little creepy, a little romantic.
I shared them with a few friends, and they got a kick out of them. A couple of them even asked me to make some for their significant others. So, yeah, I might actually turn this into a little side hustle. Who knows? Maybe I’ll start selling them online or something. It’s just cool to create something unique, something that’s a little different from the norm.
It was way more work than I thought it would be. But, it was a fun project, though. And it definitely got me in the Valentine’s Day spirit, in my own twisted way. So, if you’re looking for a Valentine’s Day card that’s a little less “Hallmark” and a little more “horror,” maybe try making your own. It’s a fun way to express your love for all things spooky. Just don’t blame me if your Valentine runs screaming in the other direction.
