Well, let me tell ya, 2011 was a year for them scary movies, the kind that make your hair stand on end. Not sure why, but them youngsters, they sure do love gettin’ spooked. I ain’t complainin’ though, sometimes it’s fun to watch somethin’ that makes ya jump a little, ya know?
The Best Horror Movies of 2011, Accordin’ to… Well, Just Me
Now, I ain’t no fancy movie critic or nothin’, but I’ve seen my share of films. And let me tell ya, some of them 2011 horror flicks were somethin’ else. They had all kinds, from them monster movies to them ghost stories, and even some that mixed it all up.
- Attack the Block: This one was about these… things… from outer space attackin’ a block of apartments, I think. Had some funny parts too, which is always nice when you’re tryin’ not to pee your pants from bein’ scared.
- I Saw the Devil: Boy, this one was somethin’ else. Real dark and twisted, about a fella gettin’ revenge. Not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. Lots of… well, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. But it sure kept you on the edge of your seat.
Some folks like them movies with ghosts and demons and such. They had a bunch of them too, in 2011.
- Apartment 143: This one was about a team of scientists investigatin’ some weird stuff happenin’ in an apartment. You know, the usual – things movin’ on their own, creepy noises, that kind of thing. It was one of them “found footage” movies, where it looks like someone just filmed it themselves, which kinda made it feel more real, ya know? Spooked me good, I tell ya.
- Apollo 18: Now, this one was a bit different. It was about astronauts on the moon, and somethin’ bad happenin’ up there. Space is scary enough on its own, without addin’ monsters or whatever it was. I always figured them astronauts were brave souls, but after seein’ this, I think they might be a little crazy too.
What Makes a Good Horror Movie?
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I think a good horror movie needs a few things. First, it’s gotta be scary, obviously. But it can’t just be loud noises and jump scares, ya know? It’s gotta get under your skin, make you think about it even after the movie’s over.
Second, it’s gotta have good characters. You gotta care about what happens to ’em, even if you know some of ’em ain’t gonna make it. And the bad guys, well, they gotta be real bad. The kind that make you wanna hide under the covers.
And finally, it’s gotta have a good story. It can’t just be a bunch of random scary stuff happenin’. There’s gotta be a reason for it, somethin’ that pulls you in and keeps you guessin’ ’til the very end. Paranormal Activity is a good example. Heard tell it was made with hardly any money, but it scared folks good, and made a whole bunch of money too. Shows ya, ya don’t need fancy stuff to make a good scary movie.
More 2011 Horror Movies Worth a Look
There was a whole bunch more horror movies that came out in 2011. Too many to mention ‘em all, really. But some others I remember hearin’ folks talk about were… well, I can’t rightly recall all the names, but there was this one with a devil, I think… and another one about… somethin’ in the woods, maybe? See, my memory ain’t what it used to be. But I tell ya, if you like gettin’ spooked, 2011 was a good year for it.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to watch on a dark and stormy night, and you ain’t afraid of a little scare, go find yourself some of them 2011 horror movies. Just don’t blame me if you can’t sleep with the lights off afterwards!
Anyway, that’s just my two cents on them scary movies. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but I know what I like. And in 2011, there was plenty to like, if you like bein’ scared, that is.
