Alright, so, I wanted to figure out just how much of a horror movie buff I really am. I mean, I’ve seen a bunch, but how many is “a bunch”, you know? So I started this little project to see where I stand.

First, I needed a list. A big one. I scoured the internet, dug through all those “Top 100 Horror Movies” lists, and cobbled together a massive list of titles. It was a mess at first, just a huge text file with movie names, some famous, some I’d never even heard of. I think I even found one called “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” from, like, 1920. Who knew?

Next, I needed a way to keep track of what I’d seen. I started simple. Just going through the list, marking down “yes” or “no” next to each title. But that got old fast. So, I whipped up a quick little spreadsheet. Much easier. I could just put an “X” in a column for the ones I’d seen. And I added a column for the year, because why not? It’s cool to see how the movies are spread out. 1920, 2018, you name it. I used the “Rotten Tomatoes” thingy to get the year, for most of them, but it was just a text, not a link or something.

Then came the fun part – actually watching movies! I re-watched some of my favorites, just to make sure they were on the list. You know, classics like “The Exorcist.” I’m pretty sure it’s still considered one of the scariest ever made. I even saw a list where the number one scary one was “Sinister”, but I can’t remember if I’ve watched that one. And I plowed through a bunch that I’d been meaning to see. Some were great, some were… well, let’s just say they won’t be making my personal top 10.

As I went, I kept updating my spreadsheet. It was actually kind of satisfying to see those “X” marks adding up. I even made a little formula thingy to count them all up for me, so I could see my progress. There’re different quizes online, saying “If you’ve seen 25 out of 100…”, so I guess I made one, too.

The Result

  • I ended up with way more movies on my “seen” list than I thought I would. It’s not about being the biggest fan, it’s just a cool way to check what I’ve seen.
  • It’s also interesting to see how many I watched in the last few years.
  • And this little project gave me a bunch of new movies to add to my watchlist.

So, yeah, that’s my little horror movie tracking adventure. It’s not exactly rocket science, but it was a fun little way to indulge my inner film geek. And hey, maybe it’ll inspire you to do the same. Or maybe not. Either way, happy watching! Or not, depending on your feelings about horror movies, I guess!
