So, I had this assignment, and I had to cite a documentary I watched on Netflix. I was like, “Okay, how do I even do this?” I mean, it’s not like citing a book or an article. It’s a documentary, and it’s on Netflix. The first thing I did was to hit up Google. I just typed in “how to cite a Netflix documentary APA”. I figured, “Someone out there must have had the same problem, right?”
I started to look through a few search results. Many of them just said to use the title of the documentary, the director, and the year it was released. But I needed more than that. I was looking for something more specific to Netflix.
Digging Deeper
Then I found this article that was a bit more helpful. It explained that I needed to include some information such as the title of the documentary, the director, the production company, the year it was released, and, of course, that it was from Netflix. It sounded easy enough, so I started to write those down.
Putting It All Together
I started with the title, which was in italics, and then put the word “Film” in square brackets. Then, I added the director’s name. After that, I listed the production companies and then the year of release. Last but not least, I added “Netflix” at the end. I was feeling pretty good about myself at this point. I thought I had cracked the code.
The Final Format
- Documentary Title [Film].
- Director’s Last Name, First Initial. (Director).
- Production Company.
- Year.
- Netflix.
After putting it all together, it looked pretty decent. I was happy with the result, and it made sense to me. It wasn’t so complicated after all, just needed to find the right steps. I learned a lesson here. Even for new stuff like citing a Netflix movie, there’s always a way if you dig enough.
