Okay, so, I was working on my paper, and I wanted to use this Netflix show as one of my sources. But then I got stuck. I was like, how do I even cite this thing? I mean, it’s not a book or an article, right? So, I started digging around to figure out how to cite a Netflix show in APA format. It’s a bit trickier than your usual citation, but not too bad once you get the hang of it.
First, I learned that you gotta start with the executive producers’ names. Yeah, the people who are in charge of the whole shebang. You list them with their last names first, then initials, just like any other author in APA. And don’t forget the “executive producer” part in parentheses after their names. You know, just to be official and all.
If there is more than one producer, it should look like this:
- Smith, J. D., & Jones, A. B. (Executive Producers).
Then, you need the year the show was released. Stick that in parentheses right after the producers’ names. Simple enough.
Next comes the title of the show. It goes in italics, just like a book title. And you capitalize it like a regular title too, so all important words start with a big letter.
After that, I found out you need to put “[TV series]” in brackets. This tells people, “Hey, this is a TV show, not a movie or something else.”
Finally, you put the name of the production company. In this case, it’s Netflix, but sometimes shows are made by multiple companies. If that’s the case, you gotta list them all, separated by semicolons.
Here’s an example of a complete citation
Let’s say I wanted to cite “Stranger Things.” It would look something like this:
- Duffer, M., Duffer, R., Levy, S., Cohen, D., & Paterson, I. (Executive Producers). (2016-present). Stranger things [TV series]. 21 Laps Entertainment; Monkey Massacre Productions; Netflix.
And there you have it! That’s how I learned to cite a Netflix show in APA. It’s a little different, but once I figured out the steps, it was a piece of cake. Now, I can finally finish my paper and use “Stranger Things” as a source without any worries. Hopefully, this little breakdown helps someone else out there who’s scratching their head over the same thing. Remember these steps and keep practicing, you will find it is not that hard!
