Alright, so ya wanna know if this new Trolls movie, this “Band Together” thing, is, what’s the word… “woke”? I ain’t no fancy movie critic, mind you, just a regular person who went to see a flick with the grandkids.
What’s this “Trolls Band Together” all about anyway? Well, from what I gathered, it’s about this Poppy and Branch, they’re a couple now, all lovey-dovey and such. Cute little things, those trolls. But then, uh oh, Floyd, one of Branch’s brothers gets snatched up by some bad guys. So, these two lovebirds, they gotta go on a big adventure to save him. Kinda like when my chickens get loose, gotta chase ‘em all over the yard, real pain in the neck it is.
And it ain’t just Floyd, apparently Branch got more brothers! Gotta find them too, and get the whole family back together. That’s important, family is. Even if your brother is a bit of a pain, like my brother used to borrow my tools and never return ‘em, still family you know?
Now, about this “woke” stuff. I hear people throwing that word around all the time. Honestly, I don’t really get it half the time. But if ya mean, does it push some kinda agenda or something, I didn’t see much of that. It’s a kids’ movie, ya know? Singing, dancing, bright colors. Kept the grandkids quiet for a couple of hours, which is a miracle in itself. My grandkid, little Timmy, he just loved all the singing. Reminded me of when we used to sing hymns in church, only this music had more…pep.
- Is there any of that… you know… “boy likes boy, girl likes girl” stuff? Well, yeah, a little bit. There’s a couple of characters, Floyd and Veneer, voiced by them fellas who, I hear, are that way inclined in real life. But it ain’t a big deal in the movie. They don’t go around waving flags or nothin’. They’re just… there. Like that weird neighbor down the street, he’s a bit odd, but he’s still part of the neighborhood, ain’t he?
The movie is mostly about friendship, family and sticking together. That’s something I can get behind. We always say in our family, blood is thicker than water, you gotta look out for your own. And these trolls, they sure do look out for each other. Reminds me of that time when the whole town came together to rebuild Mrs. Gable’s barn after the fire. That was something special.
The animation? It’s real pretty, I gotta say. All those bright colors, the sparkly stuff. Reminds me of my flower garden in the spring, all them colors just bursting out. The grandkids loved it, their eyes were glued to the screen the whole time. And the music, well, it’s catchy, I’ll give it that. I was tappin’ my foot along to some of the songs, even though I didn’t know half of ‘em. Reminds me of that old jukebox down at the diner, always playing them catchy tunes, though I prefer my old country music myself.
So, is it woke? I dunno. Maybe a little, maybe not at all. It’s a kids’ movie, it’s fun, it’s got a good message about family and friends. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, is there? If you’re worried about it, maybe just watch it yourself first. Or don’t. It ain’t gonna change your life one way or the other. Me? I just wanted to spend some time with my grandkids, and this movie did the trick. And that’s all that matters to me. Besides, little Timmy, he says he wants to be a troll when he grows up, so it can’t be all that bad. Though I told him being a farmer is a much better job, much more honest work.
In my opinion, folks make too much fuss about things these days. If it ain’t hurtin’ nobody, let it be. That’s what I say. And this movie, well, it ain’t hurtin’ nobody. So go see it, don’t see it. Your choice. Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. Got a pot roast in the oven and it ain’t gonna cook itself.
Bottom line? It’s a cute movie, good for the kids. Nothin’ too crazy or offensive, unless you’re looking for trouble where there ain’t none. Like that old Mrs. Henderson down the street, always complainin’ about the kids playing too loud, never satisfied that woman. Some folks are just born grumpy, I guess.
