“That’s not why we’re cool!” Netflix has revealed the teaser trailer for an action comedy thriller called Back in Action, yet another new “what if they were once spies” movie to skip on streaming next year. This is set for release in January 2025 from Netflix, which seems like they’re dumping it. The production had many issues, including medical emergencies on set, Jamie Foxx’s hospitalization, and more. Years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily and Matt – starring Cameron Diaz & Jamie Foxx – are dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown. Isn’t this the exact same plot as about 50 other movies? Diaz previously acted alongside Foxx in the 1999 sports drama Any Given Sunday and once again in 2014 in the remake of Annie. Ironically, Annie was the last film Diaz acted in before announcing her retirement in 2018… With a little help from NFL legend Tom Brady, Foxx convinced Diaz to come out of retirement, and this is their latest movie. The cast also includes Kyle Chandler, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts, Rylan Jackson, Glenn Close. This looks so cheesy and generic. Meh.
Here’s the first look teaser trailer (+ poster) for Seth Gordon’s Back in Action, direct from YouTube:
Years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily & Matt (Cameron Diaz & Jamie Foxx) find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown. Back in Action is directed by American filmmaker Seth Gordon, director of the films The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, Four Christmases, Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief, and Baywatch previously, plus eps of “For All Mankind”, “The Long Game: Bigger Than Basketball”, “The Night Agent” most recently. The screenplay is written by Seth Gordon and Brendan O’Brien (Neighbors). Produced by Jenno Topping, Peter Chernin and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett (Ford v Ferrari, Hidden Figures, Luther) for Chernin Entertainment; Beau Bauman (Central Intelligence) for Good One Productions; Seth Gordon for Exhibit A. Netflix debuts Gordon’s Back in Action movie streaming on Netflix worldwide starting January 17th, 2025 early next year. Who wants to watch?
