Well, let me tell ya ’bout this here movie, “Journey to Bethlehem”. Folks are callin’ it a Christian movie, ya know, for Christmas and all. It’s got them songs, catchy ones, the kind that get stuck in your head like a burr in your sock. And it’s kinda playful, not all serious and preachy like some of them church movies.
Now, if you’re a Christian family lookin’ for somethin’ fun and wholesome to watch durin’ Christmas, this might just be your cup of tea. It’s uppity, you know, makes you feel good inside. And it’s safe enough to bring your neighbors, even if they ain’t church folk. Just tell ’em it ain’t exactly like the Bible story, they took some liberties, you know, made it a bit more…entertainin’.
- They got Mary proposin’ to Joseph, which ain’t how I heard it.
- And them three wise men, they’re more like clowns than wise men in this here movie. Always crackin’ jokes and whatnot.
But listen, if you’re expectin’ a straight-up Bible story, this ain’t it. They messed with it a fair bit. But hey, it still shows the important part, you know, ’bout Jesus bein’ born and all that. It’s still in there, just dressed up a bit fancy.
I’ve seen worse, let me tell ya. Way worse. This one, it’s like a Disney movie, but Christian style. Got all that singin’ and dancin’, just like them Disney flicks my grandkids watch. And them three wise men, they’re a hoot, always makin’ me chuckle. They coulda toned it down a bit on the jokin’ around, but it wasn’t too bad.
This fella, Adam Anders, he’s the one who made this movie. He’s done them “Glee” shows and that “Rock of Ages” movie too. So, he knows a thing or two about makin’ movies with music. You can tell he put his heart into it, even if it ain’t perfect by the book, if you catch my drift.
Now, I ain’t one for them musicals, never really liked ’em. But this “Journey to Bethlehem”, I gotta say, I kinda liked it. At first, I was a bit iffy, ya know, with that modern music in a Bible story. Felt kinda strange, like puttin’ ketchup on your grits. But it grew on me, like a vine on a fence post.
The story’s there, kinda sorta. They make Mary and Joseph look a bit more…modern, I guess. Not like them stiff pictures you see in the Sunday school books. They laugh, they cry, they sing. They act like real people, young people in love, worried about havin’ a baby and all. That part, I liked. Made it relatable, if you know what I mean.
And the music, well, it’s catchy. Like I said, it gets stuck in your head. My grandkids, they were singin’ them songs for days after we watched it. They were dancin’ around the livin’ room, pretendin’ to be Mary and Joseph. It was somethin’ to see. It made me think maybe this movie, even with its flaws, could bring some young folks closer to the Lord. And that ain’t a bad thing, no sir.
The movie ain’t perfect, mind you. It takes a lot of liberties with the Bible story. But it’s got a good heart. It’s tryin’ to tell the story of Jesus’ birth in a way that’s accessible and entertainin’ for folks today. And for that, I give it credit.
If you’re lookin’ for somethin’ light and uplifting this Christmas, somethin’ you can watch with the whole family, “Journey to Bethlehem” might be just the ticket. Just don’t expect a history lesson, ya hear? Go in with an open mind and a joyful heart, and you might just enjoy it. I did, and that’s sayin’ somethin’ comin’ from an old lady like me.
It ain’t the best movie I ever seen, and it ain’t the worst. It’s somewhere in the middle, a good place to be for a Christmas movie, I reckon. It’s a feel-good movie, and sometimes, that’s all you need. Especially durin’ the holidays when things can get stressful and folks are runnin’ around like chickens with their heads cut off.
So go ahead, give it a watch. You might like it, you might not. But at least you can say you tried. And who knows, you might even learn a thing or two about the Christmas story, even if it’s a bit… embellished.
