Okay, so I saw this thing going around online about whether Netflix donated to Kamala Harris’ campaign, and I got curious. So, I decided to dig in and see what I could find. It’s kinda tricky, but here’s how I went about it.
My Little Investigation
First, I just did a simple search, you know, “did Netflix donate to Kamala Harris campaign?” I got a bunch of results, some news articles, some opinion pieces, nothing really concrete.
So, I thought, “Okay, let’s get closer to the source.” My next step was to look for official campaign finance records. It’s all public information, right?
- I went to a website that tracks that kind of stuff. I don’t remember what website it is.
- I searched for donations to Kamala Harris’ campaign.
- I tried searching for “Netflix” as a donor, but that didn’t really work. Big companies don’t always donate directly, you know?
Then it hit me: individuals! I should be searching for donations from people who work at Netflix. Bigwigs, executives, that sort of thing.
- I went back to these campaign finance record websites.
- I searched specifically within the donations to Harris campaign.
- I searched for “Netflix” as the employer.
I started finding some names! I saw a few donations from people who listed Netflix as their employer. I looked for some executives, and yup found some donations from them too!
It’s not a smoking gun, I get it. A company isn’t the same as its employees, and a few donations don’t necessarily mean Netflix, as a company, endorsed or supported a candidate. But it shows there’s at least some connection, with individual employees choosing to donate.
It’s like, I learned that individual people at Netflix definitely did donate, but it’s hard to say if that means Netflix did. Get it?
