Alright, so listen up, y’all. I’m gonna tell ya ’bout this Rings movie, you know, the one with the creepy girl and the TV? Yeah, that one.

First off, they ain’t usin’ no dusty ol’ VHS tapes no more. Nope, it’s all fancy-schmancy MP4 files now. Guess them youngsters wouldn’t even know what a VCR is these days, huh? So, yeah, they updated that part, which is smart, I reckon. Gotta keep up with the times, even if it means messin’ with a good thing. This new way, maybe even my grandkid can watch it without askin’ a hundred questions.

Now, this here movie, it’s supposed to be a sequel to them other Ring movies, the ones that scared the pants off everyone back in the day. I remember watchin’ them, hidin’ behind a pillow half the time. This one… well, it tries to be scary, it really does. But ain’t nothin’ like the first time, you know? Once you seen that creepy girl crawlin’ out of the TV, it’s hard to get that same shiver down your spine again.

  • Scary girl? Check.
  • Creepy phone calls? Check.
  • People dyin’ after watchin’ a video? Check.

It’s all there, the whole shebang. But it just feels… different. Like they’re tryin’ too hard, maybe. Or maybe I’m just gettin’ too old for this scary movie stuff. Heard some folks online, on that Reddit thing my nephew talks about, they got all sorts of opinions about all eleven Ring movies! Can you believe it, eleven! Who got the time to watch all that? But some of them say this new one ain’t as good as the old ones. And I gotta say, I kinda agree.

This Samara girl, the one with the long black hair and the creepy stare, she’s still the main baddie. And she’s still pretty darn scary, I ain’t gonna lie. But they try to give her a backstory, you know, explain why she’s so messed up. And that’s where it kinda falls apart for me. Sometimes, it’s better not to know, you know? Some things are just plain evil, and that’s that. No need to go diggin’ around and tryin’ to make sense of it.

And the story, well, it’s a bit all over the place. There’s this girl, and she watches the video, and then she gotta save herself and her boyfriend. And there’s this other group of people doin’ some weird experiments with the video. And it all gets kinda tangled up and confusing. I was sittin’ there scratchin’ my head half the time, tryin’ to figure out what was goin’ on. The first two Ring movies were just so much clearer. Like the water in the crick behind my house, you know? This one’s got all kinds of mud stirred up.

The acting? It’s alright, I guess. The girl screams good, and the boyfriend looks worried enough. But ain’t nobody winnin’ no Oscars for this one, that’s for sure. They do what they gotta do, but it ain’t nothin’ special. Reminds me of them actors on them soap operas my daughter watches, always makin’ big faces and whinin’ about somethin’.

Now, I ain’t no fancy movie critic or nothin’. I’m just a regular person, tellin’ ya what I think. And what I think is, this Rings movie, it’s okay. It ain’t great, it ain’t terrible. It’s just… okay. If you’re lookin’ for a few cheap thrills, it’ll do the trick. But if you’re expectin’ somethin’ as good as the first Ring movie, well, you might be disappointed. It’s kinda like tryin’ to make a good ol’ fashioned apple pie with store-bought crust. It just ain’t the same, y’know? They made this movie in 2017 and they even got a fella named F. Javier Gutirrez to direct it. Bless his heart, he tried.

And another thing, this movie, it’s got what my nephew calls an “anchor,” somethin’ that’s supposed to keep it grounded. But to me, this anchor just drags the whole thing down. They spend too much time on this side story, and it takes away from the scares. It’s like they’re tryin’ to be too clever, and it just ends up bein’ a mess. I prefer it when things are simple and straightforward. Scary girl, scary video, people dyin’. That’s all you need, really.

So, there you have it. My two cents on this Rings movie. Take it or leave it. Maybe you’ll like it more than I did. Maybe you’ll hate it. But hey, that’s what makes the world go ’round, right? Everybody’s got their own opinion. And mine is, it’s an okay movie, but nothin’ to write home about. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about scary movies has made me hungry.
