You know, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout a movie filmed in New Bedford. That place, it’s down by the water, ain’t it? Lots of fishin’ boats and such. Heard they got some big, fancy houses there, too. Rich folks, probably.

Well, this movie, they say it’s about them fishermen. Hard workin’ folks, them. Up before the sun, out on that cold water. Not like me, I like to sleep in ’til the rooster crows, and sometimes even after! But them fishermen, they gotta make a livin’, rain or shine. And the sea, she ain’t always kind, you know.

New Bedford, That’s a Busy Place

They got all sorts of things goin’ on in New Bedford. Besides the fishin’, I mean. They got them places where you can eat, fancy restaurants, I reckon. And hotels, for folks comin’ from far away to see the sights. What sights, you ask? Well, there’s the water, of course. And them old buildin’s, they say some of ’em are real old. Historic, they call ’em. Lots of bricks, probably. I like a nice brick house. Sturdy.

  • Fishin’ boats, lots of ’em!
  • Big houses, fancy ones.
  • Restaurants, for eatin’ good.
  • Hotels, for sleepin’ over.
  • Old buildin’s, they call ’em historic.

And you know what else? They got schools there, too. For the young’uns to learn their ABCs and such. Important to get an education, I always say. Even if you’re gonna be a fisherman. Gotta know how to count your catch, right? And maybe read the weather report. Don’t want to be caught out in a storm. Them storms can be mean, really mean, out on the sea.

That Movie, What’s It Called?

Now, I can’t rightly remember the name of that movie filmed in New Bedford. Starts with an F, I think. Or maybe a P. Somethin’ like that. But I heard it’s got some famous folks in it. Movie stars, you know. The kind you see on them TV shows. Probably never seen a real fishin’ boat in their life, ‘cept in the pictures. But that’s okay. They are just actin’, pretendin’, that’s their job. The real heroes are the fishermen, I always say. And the folks who keep the town goin’, sellin’ groceries, fixin’ cars, teachin’ the kids. Those are the important jobs.

They filmed it a while back, I heard. A few years maybe? Time flies when you’re having fun, or when you are gettin’ old, not sure which. They say you can watch it now, though. On one of them streamin’ things. You gotta have a special TV for that, I think. Or maybe a computer. I ain’t got neither. I just got my old radio. That’s all I need. They play good music on the radio, and I can listen to the news. Keep up with the important stuff.

New Bedford and the Sea, They Go Together

New Bedford, that’s a fishin’ town. Always has been, always will be. The sea, it’s in their blood, I reckon. Like dirt under your fingernails if you’re a farmer. It’s just part of who they are. And that’s a good thing. Gotta have somethin’ to be proud of. Somethin’ to work hard for. Somethin’ to keep you goin’. And for them folks in New Bedford, it’s the sea. And them fish. And them boats. And now, I guess, it’s that movie, too.

I wonder if they filmed any of it in them fancy restaurants in New Bedford. Or maybe in one of them hotels. Probably did. Movie stars, they like the fancy places, I guess. But I bet they got some shots of them fishin’ boats, too. Gotta show the real New Bedford, the heart of it. The part that smells like salt and sweat and hard work. That’s the part I’d like to see. That’s the part that matters.

You know, they got other movies, too. Not filmed in New Bedford. There is one about Christmas, I heard it’s real good. They say it will become a Christmas classic, whatever that means. Sounds nice though. I like Christmas. Everyone is happy and singing, giving each other gifts. That is always a good time. Maybe one day I will see that Christmas movie. Or maybe I will see that movie filmed in New Bedford. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Not me, that is for sure.

  • Movies are fun to watch.
  • Christmas is a good time.
  • New Bedford is a fishin’ town.
  • The sea is important to New Bedford.
  • Hard work is important.

So, if you’re ever in New Bedford, take a look around. See them boats. Smell that sea air. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll think about that movie. The one they filmed right there, in that little fishin’ town. The one about the folks who work hard and make a livin’ from the sea. And maybe you will get yourself one of them smart TVs and see that movie filmed in New Bedford for yourself, and see what all the fuss is about. Just remember to appreciate the real people, the ones who are not acting. They are the real stars, after all.
