So, last week, I decided to check out this “movie in the park” thing in Sacramento, CA. I heard about it from a friend who went there a couple of weeks ago, and it sounded pretty chill. I figured, why not? It’s something different to do on a Thursday night, and a Halloween-themed movie could be a good memory.
I looked it up online, and it turns out it happens every Thursday night in October. This time it was hosted in the Old Sacramento State Historic Park. That’s a cool spot, with all those old-timey buildings. Gives you that feeling like you’ve stepped back in time, you know?
I grabbed a blanket from home, because you gotta be comfy for these things. They said families are invited to bring blankets, so I guess it is a family-friendly activity, but I went with my friend. We got there a bit early, wanted to make sure we found a good spot to lay it out. There were already a bunch of people there, setting up their own little areas. Some people brought whole picnics, it was wild. I just had a bottle of water, but next time, maybe I’ll pack some snacks, too.
Before the movie started, they were playing some old cartoons on the screen. I saw a Tom and Jerry clip, which brought back some childhood memories, it’s been ages since I last watched it! It was a nice touch, kept everyone entertained while we waited.
The movie they showed was “Lady Bird.” I’d seen it before, but it was still fun to watch it again, especially in that setting. It’s about a teenager growing up in Sacramento, so it felt kinda relevant, right? Plus, the atmosphere was just so relaxed. Everyone was just chilling, enjoying the movie under the stars. It’s way better than being cooped up in a regular theater, I gotta say.
Overall, it was a really good experience. I’d definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in Sacramento and looking for something to do. It’s a nice way to spend an evening, whether you’re with family, friends, or even just by yourself. I’m thinking of going again next Thursday, maybe try one of those “dive-in” screenings I saw mentioned somewhere. A movie and a swim? Sounds like the perfect combo to me!
Here are a few things I learned from my experience:
- Get there early to get a good spot.
- Bring a blanket or chairs to sit on.
- Snacks and drinks are a good idea.
- Check the schedule beforehand to see what movie is playing.
- Most important, enjoy the movie and the atmosphere!
Where to find it
The greater Sacramento area has a number of unique places that screen films. And from what I know, Old Sacramento State Historic Park is just one of them. You might find similar movie events in other parks as well.
So yeah, that was my movie in the park adventure. Pretty simple, but definitely a good time. I hear there are places like Hot Tub Cinemas or Drive-In Sacramento 6, which are also worth a try. If you are into outdoor movies, definitely look them up!
