Ya know, movies, they’re somethin’ else. Like, in that New Albany, Mississippi place? They got them movies there too. Used to be, ya just went to the picture show, paid yer nickel, and sat down. Now, it’s all fancy. Big screens, comfy seats. But it’s still movies, ain’t it?
Heard tell there’s this place, New Albany 16. Sixteen movies! Can ya believe it? Back in my day, we was lucky to have one screen in town. Now they got sixteen. What’s a body supposed to do with all them choices? And they say ya can get rewards or somethin’. Double rewards, even! Don’t know what for, but sounds like a good deal.
- Find them movie tickets and showtimes, they say.
- Earn rewards while yer at it.
Never had rewards for watchin’ a picture show before. Just went ’cause it was somethin’ to do, somethin’ to see. Now they make a whole thing out of it. But I reckon it’s still the same, dark room, big screen, stories playin’ out. Just fancier, that’s all.
Then there’s them movie theaters near 38652, whatever that is. Sounds like a number you’d find in a phone book. But if you’re lookin’ for a movie, they say ya gotta look near that number. Find the showtimes, they say. What’s a showtime anyway? Back in my day, the movie started when it started. You came early, you waited. You came late, well, you missed the start.
They got this Fandango thing too. Sounds like a dance, don’t it? But it ain’t. It’s somethin’ to do with findin’ movies. Discover showtimes near you, they say. Near me? I’m right here! Don’t need no Fandango to tell me that. But I reckon it’s helpful for them young folks, always on their phones and such.
Then there’s Movie Reel 4. Seventy-two somethin’ Coulter Drive. Sounds like a fancy address. Used to be, movies were just on Main Street. Now they got fancy addresses and numbers and all. But it’s still movies, ain’t it? Stories on a screen, takin’ ya somewhere else for a little while.
Heard about this Crazy Rich Asians movie too. Became a stage thing. Imagine that, a movie becomin’ a stage thing! Used to be the other way ’round. But times change, I guess. Still, a good story’s a good story, no matter how ya tell it.
And these codes they talk about? Discount codes for films. Fifteen percent off, thirty percent off. Back in my day, a nickel was a nickel. No discounts, no codes. But I guess savin’ money’s always a good thing, ain’t it? Maximizing savings, they call it.
Digital cinema, they call it now. Used to be reels of film, spinnin’ around. Now it’s all digital. Like them phones the kids have. Everything’s digital. But it’s still movies, ain’t it? Still stories on a screen. Still a way to escape for a little while.
Used to be able to buy movies on them reels, they say. Analog love, they call it. Guess some folks still like the old ways. Like me, I reckon. I like things simple, straight to the point. But digital or reel, it’s all stories. And that’s what matters, ain’t it? The stories we tell, the stories we see.
