Alright, so I watched this thing on Netflix, called “Mysteries of the Faith”. Yep, that’s right, me, watchin’ somethin’ on that fancy Netflix thing my grandkids set up. Anyways, it’s about them Catholic thingamajigs, you know, the holy stuff.

Now, I ain’t no scholar or nothin’, but I gotta say, for a bunch of city folk makin’ this show, they were pretty respectful of them Catholic folks and their beliefs. They talked about all sorts of relics, like the Holy Grail and, uh, the Face of… somethin’. Don’t rightly remember all of ’em, too many fancy names for this old gal.

  • They had this one episode, talked about some cup, said it was the one Jesus used at that last supper thing. Sounded important, I guess.
  • Then there was another one about a piece of cloth, said it had Jesus’s face on it. How that happened, I ain’t got a clue. Miracles, they said.

The whole show was like that, tellin’ stories ’bout these old things and what folks believe they can do. They had all these smarty-pants people talkin’, explainin’ the history and all that. Made my head spin a little, to be honest.

But here’s the thing, they didn’t really try to prove nothin’. They just told the stories, like how folks found these things and the miracles they say happened because of ’em. Didn’t say if it was all true or not, just left it up to you to decide, I reckon.

Now, I’ve been around a long time, seen a lot of things. I’ve seen folks put their faith in all sorts of stuff. Some folks pray to statues, some folks carry around lucky charms. Me? I just try to be a good person, that’s my faith, I guess.

But watchin’ this show, it got me thinkin’. These things, these relics, they mean somethin’ to a lot of people. They give ’em hope, give ’em somethin’ to believe in. And who am I to say that’s wrong?

It’s all a mystery, ain’t it? This whole life, this whole world. We try to make sense of it, try to find answers. Some folks find them answers in church, some folks find ’em in books, some folks just look up at the stars and wonder.

This “Mysteries of the Faith” show, it don’t give you no answers, not really. It just shows you what folks believe, what they hold sacred. And maybe, just maybe, that’s enough. Maybe it’s the believin’ that matters, not the knowin’ for sure.

It’s like that preacher used to say, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Never quite understood what that meant, but watchin’ this show, I think I’m startin’ to get it a little bit.

They called it a docuseries, four parts they made. Came out in November, I think. Showed a bunch of history and talked about spirituality and all that. Good enough watch, I s’pose, if you’re into that kinda thing. Made me think, anyways, and that ain’t always a bad thing.

So, yeah, “Mysteries of the Faith”. That’s what it was called. If you got nothin’ better to do, give it a watch. Might learn somethin’, might not. But hey, at least you’ll see some pretty old things and hear some interesting stories. And that’s worth somethin’, right?
