Alright, so, I got this idea to make some Ghibli movie posters, you know, for those awesome anime films. First thing I did was to look around online for what’s already out there. Typed in “Ghibli movie posters” and, man, there’s a ton of stuff. Loads of shops selling them, lots of different designs.
I wanted mine to be unique, though. So I started looking at the posters that were already made. I noticed most of them had the main characters and, like, the big scenes from the movies. Pretty standard, but I wanted to do something a bit different.
Then I thought, “What if I focused on the smaller details from the films?” You know, those little things that you don’t really notice at first but that make the movies so special. Like, I could do a poster based on the food from “Spirited Away,” or the little soot sprites from “My Neighbor Totoro.”
I started playing around with some designs. It was kind of tough, not going to lie. Getting the colors right, making sure it still felt like a Ghibli film but was also, like, my own thing. A lot of trial and error, a lot of just messing around in a design app.
I made a few different ones.
- One was all about the different kinds of transportation in the movies. You’ve got the Catbus, Howl’s moving castle, even the little broom from “Kiki’s Delivery Service.” It was a bit busy, but I liked how it turned out.
- Another one I did was just a close-up of a Ghibli character’s face. I chose No-Face from “Spirited Away,” because he’s so mysterious, you know? I kept it simple, just black and white, but it was really striking.
- I even tried making a poster that was just a landscape from one of the movies. I picked the forest from “Princess Mononoke.” That one was a real challenge, trying to capture all the detail.
I’m not sure if I’ll sell these or anything. It was more of a fun project, a way to kind of dive deeper into these movies that I love. But yeah, it was a cool experience, seeing what I could come up with, and taking inspiration from other fans’ work.

If you’re a Ghibli fan, maybe give it a shot. It’s a fun way to appreciate the movies, and you might surprise yourself with what you create.
