Yesterday, I decided to check out the Netflix Theater in Palisades, officially called the Bay Theater. I’d heard some rumors about it, especially since it’s operated by Netflix, and I was curious to see how it compared to the usual movie-going experience. The theater is located right in the heart of Palisades Village, making it super convenient.

First off, I noticed the place had this vintage vibe mixed with a bit of luxury. It felt like stepping back in time but with all the modern comforts. It made sense, considering it was built in 2018 and Netflix took it over in 2021. The ticket prices were reasonable, around $12, which is pretty standard for this area.

Getting There

  • I drove down and easily found the address at 1035 N Swarthmore Ave.
  • There’s also another entrance at 15255 Palisades Village Lane, which I didn’t use but is good to know for next time.

Once inside, I grabbed some snacks—they had the usual popcorn and candy, but also some fancier options that I didn’t try this time. I headed into the theater, and it was surprisingly cozy. The seats were plush and comfortable, making it easy to settle in for the movie.

The movie selection was a mix of new releases and some classics, which I appreciated. It’s not every day you get that kind of variety. I ended up watching a new release, and the whole experience was pretty immersive. The sound and picture quality were top-notch, just what you’d expect from a theater run by a major streaming service.

After the movie, I hung around Palisades Village for a bit. It’s a nice area to walk around, with plenty of shops and places to eat. It occurred to me that going to the Bay Theater isn’t just about watching a movie—it’s about the whole experience of being in a nice neighborhood, enjoying good food, and maybe doing a bit of shopping.

Thoughts

Overall, I had a great time. It’s different from just streaming something at home. There’s something special about going out to the movies, especially when the theater is as nice as the Bay Theater. I know some people prefer the convenience of streaming, and I get that. But sometimes, you want that immersive experience that only a theater can provide.

I also learned that the Bay Theater used to be run by Cinépolis before the pandemic hit. It’s cool that Netflix and Caruso decided to reopen it. It adds something unique to the community. I definitely plan on going back, maybe to catch one of those classic movie screenings they do.

In the end, whether you prefer streaming or going to the theater probably comes down to personal preference. But if you’re in the Palisades area and looking for a great movie-going experience, I’d recommend checking out the Bay Theater. It’s a nice blend of old-school charm and modern luxury, and it’s a great way to spend an evening.
