This here Netflix, it’s a thing, ain’t it? Everyone’s got it these days. My grandkids, they’re always on it, glued to that darn screen. They set me up with one, said it’d be good for me, keep me company, you know? But it’s got so many buttons and pictures, it’s a bit much for these old eyes.
Now, they got this thing, this “who’s watching” thing. It’s like, they’re askin’ who’s the one sittin’ here watchin’ their shows. Like they don’t know! It’s me, usually. Unless one of the young’uns comes over, then they take over the whole thing.
They made me a little picture, they call it a… a template, I think. It’s got my name on it, well, not my whole name, just “Grandma.” Like I’m some kind of simpleton that can’t remember my own name. But it’s easier, I guess, so I don’t mess up their things. They have the Netflix who’s watching template for everyone in the family.
They got one for Timmy, that’s my grandson, the one who’s always playin’ those video games. His picture, it’s some kind of spaceman or somethin’. Then there’s little Susie, she’s got a picture of a princess, of course. And even their dog, Buster, he’s got a picture too! A bone, if you can believe it.
I don’t rightly understand why they need all these pictures. Just pick a show and watch it, that’s what I say. But the young folks, they like all this fancy stuff. They’re always on their phones and their computers. Different world these days.
Sometimes, I just click on the first thing I see, don’t even bother with that “who’s watching” template. Then Timmy, he comes over and he’s like, “Grandma, you been watchin’ my shows again!” Gets all worked up about it. Says it messes up his… his recommendations, that’s what he calls it. Some algorithm thing.
Like I care about some algorithm! I just wanna watch my shows. They got those old westerns on there, you know. The ones with John Wayne. Now that’s good watchin’. Not like all this new stuff, with the explosions and the fast talkin’.
But I guess this Netflix thing, it’s here to stay. Everyone’s got it. Even old folks like me. It is convenient having so many movies to choose from. Even that Netflix who’s watching template is kind of convenient I guess.
- It’s just another thing to get used to, I reckon.
- Like those microwave ovens, took me forever to figure that out.
- Or those cell phones, they’re a whole other story.
They say it’s supposed to make things easier, all this technology. But sometimes, I think it just makes things more complicated. All these buttons and choices. Back in my day, you had one TV, three channels, and that was it. You watched what was on, and you liked it!
This Netflix who’s watching template, it’s like, they’re trying to keep track of everyone. Who’s watching what, when they’re watching it. It’s a bit much, if you ask me. But the young folks, they love it. They keep track of everyone’s template. They love all that data, or whatever they call it.
They say it helps them find new shows they might like. Like they need more shows! They’re already watching that thing all day long. I swear, sometimes I think they’re gonna turn into those little pictures on the screen.
But I guess it’s nice that they can have their own little spaces, their own templates. Even if it is a bit confusing for an old timer like me. I still prefer my old way of watching. Just pick a show and enjoy.
Maybe one of these days I’ll get the hang of it. Maybe I’ll even start using that template like I’m supposed to. But for now, I’m happy just watching my John Wayne movies. And if I accidentally watch something on Timmy’s profile, well, that’s just too bad for him, ain’t it?
He’ll get over it. Just like I got over learning how to use that darn remote control. Took me a while, but I figured it out. This Netflix thing, it’s just another one of those things. You learn it or don’t use it. I guess I am learning it though.
So yeah, that’s the story of this “who’s watching” thing on Netflix. It’s a newfangled thing, that’s for sure. This Netflix who’s watching template is something else. But like everything else, you get used to it. Or you don’t. Either way, the world keeps on turnin’, don’t it?
