Night of the Comet Movie Poster: Check out This Awesome Fan Art

Okay, here’s my blog post about recreating the “Night of the Comet” movie poster:

So, I’ve been on this huge 80s movie kick lately, and “Night of the Comet” is a total classic. I love the poster – it’s so cheesy and colorful. I decided I wanted to try and recreate it, just for fun, and maybe learn a thing or two along the way.

Getting Started

>

First, I grabbed a bunch of screenshots of the original poster. I just Googled it and saved a few different versions, some higher quality than others. This gave me a good reference to work from.

Next, I needed to find a good base image. I don’t have a fancy camera or anything, it is hard to find the similar background and pose. I decided to use that image as my base.

The Hard Part

Okay, so this is where it got tricky. I opened up my trusty old photo editing * is old,but enough for me.

I started by trying to match the colors. I used the eyedropper tool to sample colors from the original poster and then tried to apply them to my base image. This took a LOT of tweaking. The original poster has this weird, like, glowing effect, and I couldn’t quite get it right. I messed around with brightness, contrast, saturation… all that stuff.

Then I added the text. I couldn’t find the exact font, so I just picked one that looked kinda close. I typed out “NIGHT OF THE COMET” and messed with the size and spacing until it looked okay.I spent a long time to work on it.

  • Color Matching: This was surprisingly tough. The original has this vibrant, almost neon glow that’s hard to replicate.
  • That Glow: I still don’t know how they did that back in the 80s! I tried some blur effects and outer glow stuff, but it’s not quite the same.
  • The Font:It seems impossible to find the original one.

The Final Result

After a few hours of messing around, I had something that… well, it kinda looked like the “Night of the Comet” poster. It’s definitely not perfect, but it was a fun project! I learned a bit about color manipulation and how much work goes into even a seemingly simple poster.

It’s way harder than it looks to recreate something like this! I have a new appreciation for those old-school movie poster artists. Maybe I’ll try another one soon…
