Alright, so I saw this crossword clue the other day, “decluttering method featured on Netflix”, and it got me thinking. I’ve been meaning to tackle the mess in my house for ages, and I remembered that show, “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo”. I figured, why not give it a shot? This is how it went down.

First off, I watched a couple of episodes of the show to get the gist. The whole thing is about keeping only the things that “spark joy.” Sounds simple enough, right?

I started with my clothes, which is what Marie Kondo recommends. I took everything out of my closet and drawers and dumped it on my bed. Man, I had so much stuff. It was overwhelming.

  • Step 1: I picked up each item one by one and asked myself, “Does this spark joy?”
  • Step 2: If it did, I kept it. If it didn’t, I thanked it for its service (yeah, it felt a little weird) and put it in a pile to donate or toss.

Honestly, it was tougher than I thought. There were a lot of “maybes” that I struggled with. But I pressed on, and after a few hours, I had a significantly smaller pile of clothes. I folded them using that special Kondo method and put them back in my closet. It looked amazing, although it took longer to fold than usual.

Next, I moved on to books. That was even harder. I love books, and it was tough to part with any of them. But I managed to get rid of a few that I knew I’d never read again. Then, papers. Oh boy, the papers. I had stacks of old bills, receipts, and random notes. I sorted through them, shredded what I didn’t need, and organized the rest. Feels good to kill some trees.

I spent a few days doing this, going through different categories of stuff in my house. It was tiring, but also kind of therapeutic. By the end, my house was noticeably less cluttered. I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, but it’s a lot better than before. My house looks a little bigger now.

Did it change my life?

Well, I don’t know about that. But it definitely made my space more pleasant, and I feel a little lighter without all that extra stuff weighing me down. Plus, I now know the answer to that crossword clue is “KONMARI”! I’m not sure if I’ll keep up with the whole “spark joy” thing forever, but for now, I’m enjoying my newly decluttered space. If you’re looking for a way to organize your home, maybe give it a try. Just be prepared to spend some time on it, and maybe have a box of tissues handy for those tough decisions. Good luck!
