“You need to hurry. The sea is coming back faster than we expected.” Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed an official US trailer for a sci-fi survival thriller called Survive, which gets a US release on VOD in January. It’s made by a French filmmaker named Frédéric Jardin, who made the kick ass night club thriller Sleepless Night (2011), which we raved about and promoted years ago. This is his first feature film since then, as he’s been directing TV series instead. A couple celebrates their son’s birthday in the middle of the ocean on their boat. A violent storm hits & brings up hungry creatures from the depths as they fight for their survival. The apocalyptic concept involves the oceans disappearing due to the polarity being reversed, and how the world is massively changed, following one family struggling to survive. Starring Andreas Pietschmann, Émilie Dequenne, Lisa Delamar, & Lucas Ebel. This is a much better trailer but it still looks like a particularly strange survival film. Could this kind of polarity shift and ocean drain really happen? Or is this all made up?

When the oceans disappear, danger is all that remains on the surface. Julia and her loving husband are celebrating her son’s birthday on their boat in the middle of the ocean, but when a violent storm nearly capsizes them, the family awakens to a suddenly desolate land. Earth has undergone a tragic polarity reversal, draining water from the oceans. After tragedy befalls the family, Julia must save her children in a world where hungry creatures from the abyss have emerged to hunt for fresh flesh. Survive, also known as Survivre in French, is directed by French filmmaker Frédéric Jardin, of the films La Folie Douce, Les Frères Soeur, Cravate Club, and Sleepless Night previously, and the series “Spiral”, “Algiers Confidential”, and “Totems” most recently. The screenplay is written by Alexandre Coquelle & Mathieu Oullion. Produced by Marc-Etienne Schwartz and Marc Stanimirovic. This originally opened in France in June earlier this year, and it will play at FrightFest 2024 in the UK soon. Signature Ent. will debut Jardin’s Survive direct-to-VOD in the UK starting on September 30th, 2024 this fall. No US release is set yet. Anyone interested in this?
