Alright, let’s talk about this “8 1/2 film poster” thing. I don’t know much about fancy movies, but I know a thing or two about pictures. You see, back in my day, we didn’t have all this computer stuff. If you wanted a picture, you had to go get it taken, and it was a big deal.

And if it’s one of them love stories, there’s probably a pretty gal on there too. They always put pretty gals on them posters, you know, to get the fellas to come watch.
They say these posters come in different sizes. Some big, some small. The big ones, those are for the theaters, I guess. So everyone can see ‘em. The small ones, maybe folks put ‘em up in their houses. Like them pin-up girls my grandson likes to hang on his wall.

- Small Posters: For folks to keep at home, maybe. Or for collectors, I heard.

But be careful, folks. There’s a lot of tricksters out there, tryin’ to sell you junk for a lot of money. Make sure it’s a real poster, not some copy. And don’t pay too much, neither. Just ‘cause it’s old don’t mean it’s worth a king’s ransom.

I heard them movie posters come in different sizes. Something about “one sheet” and “27 by 40 inches.” Sounds like a lot of fancy talk to me. Back in my day, a picture was a picture. Didn’t matter how big or small it was. But I guess it matters to these collectors.
This 1.85:1 thing, they say it’s how wide the picture is. Like them wide-screen TVs, I guess. Makes it look more fancy, more like you’re really there. But me, I don’t need all that fancy stuff. Just give me a good story and some decent folks on the screen, and I’m happy.

Now, if you do get yourself one of these posters, you gotta take care of it. Don’t just stick it up on the wall with thumbtacks, like my grandson does with everything. Get yourself a nice frame. Keep it safe from the dust and the sun. That way, it’ll last longer and maybe even be worth more money someday.
Why People Collect These Things?
I still don’t quite understand why folks collect these things. But I guess it’s like any other hobby. Some folks collect stamps, some collect coins, some collect old movie posters. It gives them something to do, something to talk about. And maybe it reminds them of a simpler time, when going to the movies was a big event.

The Movie Itself
Now about this movie, 8 1/2, I heard it’s one of them artsy films. Not like them action pictures my grandson watches, all explosions and car chases. This one’s supposed to be about a fella’s life, his dreams and all that. Sounds kinda complicated to me. I like a good story, but I don’t want to have to think too hard.
But I reckon if the movie’s famous enough to have posters worth collectin’, it must be pretty good. Maybe I’ll ask my grandson to find it for me. We can watch it together, and he can explain all the fancy parts to me. He’s a smart boy, that one. Even if he does spend too much time on that computer of his.
