You see, these days, everybody talking ’bout them pop horror movie figures. What’s that? I hear them young folks say, those little things, look like them movie stars, but small and kinda cute. Yeah, that’s it. Some folks just love them.
My grandkids, they always show me pictures, say, “Look, look!” They got a whole bunch of them, all lined up on a shelf. I tell ya, those horror movie ones. Scare the living daylights outta me sometimes. But kids these days, they just love that scary stuff.
I remember one time, they showed me this one, had a white face, all bloody. I said, “What in the tarnation is that?” They told me it’s from some movie. I don’t watch those kinda movies. Too much jumpin’ and screamin’. Gives me the willies. But these pop horror movie figures, I guess they make people happy.
- They got all kinds. Big ones, small ones.
- Some of them glow in the dark.
- Some even got little weapons, like knives and axes. Lord have mercy.
They say these things are popular now. Everyone’s collectin’ them. Like them baseball cards folks used to collect. But these pop horror movie figures, they ain’t just for kids. Grown-ups like ’em too. I saw a man, older than me, buyin’ a whole box of them the other day. Said he was gonna put ’em in his office. Can you believe that?
And you know what? They ain’t cheap neither. Some of them little fellas cost a pretty penny. But people still buy them. I guess it’s like anything else. If it makes you happy, then it’s worth it. Even if it’s a scary little doll with a bloody knife.
There is that movie, oh what’s it called? Something about a witch. The Blair Witch, I think. That movie didn’t cost much to make, they say. Just some kids running around in the woods. But it made a whole heap of money. More than those fancy Hollywood movies. People love a good scare, I guess. Even if they gotta pay for it.
I hear these pop horror movie figures, they got them for all them scary movies. Even old ones. Like that one with the fella in the hockey mask. You know the one I’m talkin’ about. He’s got a figure now. They all do. They even got one for that movie with the little girl, she walks like a spider. Gave me nightmares for a week.
My neighbor’s boy, he’s got a whole room full of them. Calls it his “horror room.” I went in there once. Never again. Too many eyeballs starin’ at me. But he loves it. Spends all his money on those pop horror movie figures. Says they’re gonna be worth a fortune someday. Maybe he’s right. Who knows.

I saw them sellin’ these things everywhere now. Even at the grocery store. They got a whole aisle dedicated to them. Next to the candy and the toys. It’s a crazy world we live in, I tell ya. But if these little pop horror movie figures make people happy, then I guess it’s all right.
There’s this shop downtown, they only sell these things. Nothing else. Just rows and rows of these little figures. All kinds of characters, not just the scary ones. But the scary ones, the pop horror movie figures, those are the ones everyone wants. They even got a website. I don’t know how to use the internet, but my grandkids showed it to me. You can buy all sorts of stuff on there, easy as pie. They say you can even get free delivery sometimes.
I asked my grandkids why they like these things so much. They said it’s ’cause they like the movies. And having these little figures is like having a piece of the movie. I guess that makes sense. Like when I used to keep them old movie ticket stubs. Little reminders of good times.
They keep tellin’ me to buy one. Said they got one that looks like me. I don’t know if that is nice things to say. But maybe I’ll get one someday. Just one. Maybe one that don’t look too scary. One that won’t give me the heebie-jeebies. We’ll see.
So if you see these pop horror movie figures, don’t be scared. They’re just little toys. Even if they do look like they’re gonna jump out and get ya. They’re just little pieces of plastic. But for some folks, they’re more than that. They’re little pieces of their favorite scary movies. And that’s all right. Everyone needs a little somethin’ to make ’em smile. Even if it’s a little somethin’ scary.
