Well now, let me tell you about this whole Netflix and Kamala Harris thing. Folks been talkin’ ‘bout it, and I heard some things, so I’ll try to make sense of it for ya.
See, there’s this fella, Reed Hastings. He’s a big shot over at Netflix, one of them founders, I reckon. Heard he’s got more money than a hog’s got bristles. Anyway, this Mr. Hastings, he seems to like this Kamala Harris woman, the one who’s the Vice President and all.
Now, some folks are sayin’ he just up and gave her seven million dollars! Seven million! That’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life, I tell ya. Folks sayin’ he gave it to some group that’s supportin’ her. A “PAC” they call it. Don’t rightly know what that stands for, sounds fancy though.
Well, when folks heard about this money, they got all riled up. Some of ‘em, they started sayin’ they were gonna cancel their Netflix. Said they didn’t want to give their money to a company whose boss was givin’ it to politicians they didn’t like. Imagine that! Cancelin’ their shows and movies just ‘cause of some money given to a politician. Folks these days, always lookin’ for somethin’ to fuss about.
- Folks were mad, I tell ya.
- Said they were gonna boycott Netflix.
- Boycott, that’s a fancy word for not buyin’ somethin’.
Then there was talk about Netflix’s stock, you know, the thing that shows how much the company is worth. Some folks were sayin’ it dropped like a rock after this news came out. Said it went down forty percent! That sounds like a whole heap, but then I heard other folks sayin’ that wasn’t true at all. Who knows what to believe these days? Seems like everyone’s got their own story.
I even heard some folks sayin’ this whole thing was just a bunch of rumors. Said nobody gave nobody seven million dollars. Said it was all just made up. But then I saw on the news that Mr. Hastings himself said he gave the money. Said it was the biggest donation he’d ever given. So, I guess it’s true then.
It’s hard to keep up with all this stuff, I tell ya. One minute they’re sayin’ one thing, the next minute they’re sayin’ somethin’ else. Makes my head spin. But from what I can gather, Mr. Hastings, he gave a whole lot of money to support Kamala Harris, and some folks got mad about it and said they’d stop usin’ Netflix.
Now, how much did Netflix really give her? Well, it seems like it was Mr. Hastings himself, not the whole Netflix company. And it wasn’t straight to her campaign, but to a group supportin’ her. And the amount? Seven million dollars, that’s what they’re sayin’. That’s a powerful lot of money, no matter how you slice it.
So that’s the story as best as I can tell it. Take it with a grain of salt, though. Like I said, it’s hard to know what’s true these days. But one thing’s for sure, money and politics, they always seem to stir up a hornet’s nest.
