Why They Make ‘Em Like That?
They make these horror movie covers all scary for a reason. It’s to get ya curious, see? They’re tellin’ ya, “This movie’s gonna scare ya good, but you’ll like it.” And they’re right, most of the time. I do like a good scare, long as I got someone to hold onto.
They put all them scary things on the horror movie cover, because that is what the movie is about, I guess. You see a fella with a big knife, you know there is gonna be some stabbin’ and slashin’. A haunted house means the ghosts are comin’ out to play. I also found out that you can get all these pictures for free. Free is good. They even have templates to use. If you do not know what template means, it is like a drawing with parts missing and you can fill in the gaps. You can have them for free. I do not know why they give them away like that. They can make money, I guess. People still go to see the movies.

And the colors! It ain’t like a rainbow, that’s for sure. Mostly dark, like a moonless night. Lots of black, like the bottom of a well. And then that red, like I said, for the blood. Sometimes they use a bit of green, but it ain’t a happy green, no sir. It’s a sickly green, like somethin’ that’s been left out in the rain too long. You will never see pink, I tell you. That is just silly.

Now, I ain’t no expert, but I figure they put a lot of work into these horror movie covers. They gotta find the right pictures, the right colors, the right words. It’s all about catchin’ your eye, makin’ ya wanna spend your hard-earned money on a ticket. And ya know what? It works. People love to be scared. They love to scream and jump and then laugh about it later. It’s like a little adventure, I guess, without ever leavin’ your seat.
I heard that they make a lot of these posters and flyers for free. It is hard to believe. Some people are good at making these, I guess. They said that there are over 17,000 pictures on the internet that people can use to make these covers. They call them vectors. I do not know what that means, but it sounds important.
And some say there are 2,812 of these vector things that people can download. And they said it is royalty-free. I guess that means you do not have to pay the king anything to use them. I also heard that people can use these pictures without getting into trouble with the law. They call it “fair use”. That is a lot of pictures to choose from. And the people who make these, they call them artists and designers. They said that they do “Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, Art Direction”. I do not know what those words mean, but it sounds fancy.
Folks Love a Good Scare
So, next time ya see a horror movie cover, take a good look. Think about all the work that went into it. And think about why it’s there. It ain’t just to scare ya, though that’s part of it. It’s to tell ya a story, a story about monsters and ghosts and things that go bump in the night. And if ya like that kinda story, well, then maybe you’ll buy a ticket and see the movie. Just make sure ya bring someone to hold onto, ’cause it’s gonna be a wild ride!
I remember one time, they had this horror movie cover with a picture of a clown. Now, I ain’t afraid of clowns, but this one, he was somethin’ else. He had these big, sharp teeth and these crazy eyes. And he was holdin’ a balloon, but it wasn’t a happy balloon. It was a black balloon. I didn’t see that movie, no sir. Clowns ain’t supposed to be scary. They’re supposed to make ya laugh, not scream.
And there was another one, with a picture of a doll. Now, I love dolls. I used to collect ’em when I was a little girl. But this doll, she wasn’t like my dolls. I didn’t see that movie either. Dolls are supposed to be your friends, not your nightmares.
But I guess some folks like that kinda thing. They like to be scared out of their wits. Me, I prefer a nice, happy movie. But to each their own, I reckon.
