Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of short films and try my hand at writing a review. I’ve always loved movies, but short films are a different beast. They gotta tell a whole story in, like, a fraction of the time. Figured it’d be a fun challenge.
First, I needed a short film. I just went to the usual and searched around for “highly-rated short films.” Found a bunch of lists and articles, and picked one that sounded interesting – something about a robot and a lonely guy. Title was kinda weird, but whatever.
Watched the film. Took notes while I was watching – just, like, whatever popped into my head. Stuff about the characters, the plot (obviously), how it looked, the music, all that jazz. I even paused it a couple of times to jot down specific things I thought were cool or confusing.
My Messy Notes
- Sad robot?
- Guy seems lonely.
- Colors are kinda muted, makes it feel… sad?
- Music is super important, sets the mood.
- Ending is a bit… what the heck?
After I watched it, I started to put some actual sentences together. I figured a good review needs to cover a few basic things, like what happened, who the characters are, and some technical aspect to it.
I started with a quick summary of the plot, being real careful not to give away the ending. Nobody likes spoilers. Then I wrote a little bit about the main characters – the lonely guy and the robot. I tried to describe their personalities and what their deal was.
Then came the “technical” part, the visuals. I just use what I already know. I’m not an expert or anything, but I talked about how the film looked – the colors, the camera angles, that kind of stuff. Also, I think, what’s important is the music and how it made me feel.

Finally, I wrote a concluding paragraph. I put down whether or not I liked the film, and why. Explained the ending, and said it was confusing, but in a good way, I gave it my score out of 10.
It was a bit messy at first, a lot of incomplete sentences and random words. But, I tried to use simple words, not like those fancy film critics. Just my honest opinion, like I was talking to a friend, cleaned it up, read it out loud a few times to make sure it sounded okay, and bam. Done. Short film review. It ain’t perfect, but hey, I did it!
