Alright, alright, lemme tell ya ’bout this movie, this… “Cessationist” thing. Don’t rightly know what that big word means, but it’s somethin’ about them Bible days and miracles, ya know? Like, whether them fancy things still happen or if they stopped a long time ago.

The movie, well, it’s got this fella, David Lovi, talkin’ the whole time. He’s got a voice that’s easy enough to listen to, not too much hollerin’ and yellin’. He goes on and on about the Bible and how things used to be back in the old days, with them apostles and all that. Says somethin’ ’bout gifts, gifts of the spirit, they called ’em.

Now, this movie, it ain’t like them shoot-’em-up bang-bang things the young’uns watch. It’s mostly talkin’, people sittin’ around and chattin’. But they ain’t just gossiping about the neighbors, no sir. They’re talkin’ ’bout serious stuff, ’bout God and miracles and whether we still see ’em today.

  • They got this Joel Beeke fella, looks like a serious type, he’s in there talkin’.
  • And this Phil Johnson, he’s got somethin’ to say too.
  • And Steven Lawson, another one, they all seem to know a lot about the Bible.

They’re all sayin’ pretty much the same thing, that them miracles, they ain’t happenin’ like they used to. Not sayin’ God can’t do miracles, mind you, ’cause He can do anything He wants. But they’re sayin’ them special gifts, like healin’ folks just by touchin’ ’em, them things stopped a long time ago.

Now, I ain’t no preacher or nothin’, just a simple old woman. But I’ve seen some things in my life, things that make you scratch your head and wonder. People gettin’ better when the doctors said they wouldn’t, prayers gettin’ answered when you least expect it. Is that a miracle? Maybe, maybe not. This movie, it makes you think about them things, that’s for sure.

Some folks, they call themselves Charismatics or Pentecostals, they believe in them miracles still happenin’ all the time. They go to them big meetin’s, shoutin’ and singin’ and fallin’ down, sayin’ they’re touched by the Holy Spirit. This movie, it kinda goes against that, says them things ain’t real, or at least, not like them folks think they are.

The movie’s put together real nice, not all jumpy and confusing like some of them modern things. You can understand what they’re sayin’, even if you ain’t got much book learnin’. And it’s got folks sayin’ it’s a real important movie for the church, somethin’ we all need to hear. One fella even gave it five stars, said it was the best thing he’d seen in a long time.

Now, I ain’t gonna tell ya what to believe. You gotta figure that out for yourself. But if you’re wonderin’ about them miracles, about whether God still works in mysterious ways, then maybe this movie is worth a watch. It might not give ya all the answers, but it’ll sure get you thinkin’. And that’s never a bad thing, is it? Thinkin’ and ponderin’ and tryin’ to understand this big ol’ world and the good Lord above.

One thing’s for sure, this movie ain’t no waste of time. It’s got folks talkin’, and that’s a good thing. Gets you thinkin’ ’bout your faith, ’bout what you believe and why you believe it. And in these times, with the world goin’ crazy like it is, a little bit of thinkin’ and prayin’ never hurt nobody.

So, if you got a chance, go see this “Cessationist” movie. Might learn ya somethin’, might not. But it’ll give ya somethin’ to chew on, that’s for sure. And who knows, maybe it’ll even bring ya a little closer to the Almighty. And that’s somethin’ we could all use a little more of, right?

At the end of the day, it’s about faith. Whether you believe them miracles stopped or not, it don’t change the fact that God is still up there, watchin’ over us. And that’s the most important thing, ain’t it?
