SkyShowtime, the European streaming joint venture of Paramount and Comcast that is available in more than 20 markets, is ready for The Tribute (El Homenaje). That is the working title of a brand-new Spanish original thriller series launching in 2026, as unveiled by chief content officer Kai Finke during a keynote session during the fifth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria on Wednesday.
From the creative minds behind SkyShowtime original Shades (Matices), the series, which has already completed filming, “tells a completely new story full of mysteries and secrets,” the streamer said.
The series was written and directed by Sergio Cánovas, who also served as executive producer along with Elsa Pataky.
The eight-episode thriller from Secuoya Studios in co-production with Stellarmedia and in collaboration with SkyShowtime and Prime Video, which has second-window rights to the show, features a cast that includes some of the original stars of Shades, which premiered earlier this year on SkyShowtime. Eusebio Poncela, Miriam Giovanelli, Juana Acosta, Enrique Arce, Raúl Prieto, Luis Tosar, Luisa Mayol, and Pataky return to play new characters in the new story. They are joined by such new talent as Manu Ríos, Álvaro Rico, Ángela Molina, Óscar de la Fuente, and Georgina Amorós, among others.
The Tribute tells “the story of Adolfo Novak (Poncela), patriarch of one of the most powerful families in the country, who gathers his family and close friends to celebrate his 80th birthday,” according to a synopsis. “Behind the toasts and smiles lie decades of secrets, betrayals, blind loyalties and a strong desire for revenge. The evening will end up blowing up and revealing a truth that, when it finally comes to light, will be much more unexpected and surprising than any previous suspicion.”
Said Finke: “We’re excited to continue our partnership with Secuoya Studios and collaborate again with the brilliant team and talent behind Shades (Matices). With its magnificent cast and gripping storyline, The Tribute (El Homenaje) is a truly incredible project, and we look forward to premiering this suspenseful and intriguing show next year on SkyShowtime.”
Sergio Cánovas, creator, director and executive producer, promised a “story that will surprise the audience,” calling the new series a “thriller where betrayal and revenge will erupt in a turbulent family story.”
Brendan Fitzgerald, CEO of Secuoya Studios, said the show would “reaffirm the commitment of Secuoya Studios to producing bold, high-impact stories that connect with audiences.” And he described it as a “family thriller full of secrets and revelations.”
The Tribute is one of SkyShowtime’s growing slate of Spanish originals, which include true-crime documentary series A Recipe for Murder, the psychological thriller Shades (Matices), and the upcoming series Nails and Road to Arcadia.
Watch a teaser for The Tribute, also unveiled on Wednesday, below. It features a toast to the family, a mention of memoirs, “that other family” and a whole lot of emotions, including passion, anger, and fear.
