In the vein of 1917, this epic drama is set against the ill-fated WWI backdrop where a restless platoon receives word that they will soon join the first wave of an attack. Led by a war-hardened Sargent, these young men, confined to a trench on the front lines and the dark abyss, face their destiny on the day the British Army lost the greatest number of soldiers in a single day in history.

  1. He said if you were getting. Shelled by artillary all dwy and all night wouldnt you leave the trench here the thing I would lewve the trench but i wpuld be damed if a German officer told me to leave the trench and go to no mans land. I would rather get out the trench and run backwards i would be doing my best forrest gump impression opposite direction of ARTILLERY

  2. My grandfather fought at the Somme was with the Bavarian artillery have some photo’s of him in the field.

  3. Great movie, slighty different from all of the movies Ive seen over the years. But there is one part of the this movie, well not the movie, but the scene portayed that upset me. Why would a general/commander, who ever, order troops to walk into the firefight; uphill, no cover, daylight, and approx 400-600 yards? I guess I view this has an unnacceptable loss of good soldiers.

  4. My Grand Dad was there and as a Graduate of US History, this was more than a tragedy. Europe owes us for that, and let's not even talk about WWII.

  5. I thought that was a British thing, to stand straight up, in line across a field and march directly into the line of fire, not a French thing πŸ€” ? Jeepers, at least be creapers and crawl in a zig zap to make 'm earn the shot.
    WAKEUP Merica πŸ—½πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²

  6. The insanity of charging across that bombed out wasteland running into stacks of barbed wire against machine guns pouring over every inch of the field, almost too much to comprehend. Honorable men led by incompetent fools.

  7. Trench warfare, mustard gas, barrages of screaming artillery shells, bayonet attacks, enemy foxhole traps, barbed wire, landmines, no man's land, awfully-tasting canned rations, sleep deprivation for more than 72 hours, shell shock, painful and life threatening wounds, rifle butt attacks, blistering feet, poor hygiene ( smelly bodies ), mental and physical exhaustion, low morale and discouragement beyond discouragement, influenza, oxygen deprivation, etc. etc. etc. were the realities of world war 1.

  8. "A war will have a cleaning affect" The leaders actually said that. Seems to me, the only thing cleansed was a whole generation of young men used as pawns. Act one of two world wars. And to think; They would do it again given half a chance.
