Well, let me tell ya about this movie, “The Only One.” I ain’t no fancy movie critic, mind you, just a regular person tellin’ it like it is. This here movie, it’s about this old fella, Lucien Knops. Grumpy old coot, that’s what he is. His wife, she up and died on him, bless her soul. And then his daughter, she starts gettin’ all bossy, wantin’ to stick him in some old folks’ home and take his money. Can you believe that? Kids these days!

But Lucien, he ain’t havin’ none of that. He’s a fighter, this one. He decides he ain’t gonna go down easy. He’s gonna fight back, show ’em he ain’t some weak old man they can just push around. Now, I gotta say, this actor, he plays the part real good. You can just see the hurt in his eyes, the anger. He makes you feel for the fella, even though he’s a bit of a grump.

  • The story, it’s kinda simple, you know?
  • It ain’t got no fancy special effects or nothin’.
  • But it’s got heart, that’s what it’s got.

It’s about family, and loss, and fightin’ for what’s yours. And it makes you think, you know? About how you treat your folks, about what really matters in life. It ain’t money, that’s for sure. Money can’t buy you happiness, and it sure can’t buy you a good relationship with your kids.

This Noah Gilbert, the director, and that Seth Gilbert, the writer, they done a good job, seein’ as this is their first big movie and all. They tell the story straight, no fancy business. Just plain and simple, like it should be. And that’s what I like about it. It ain’t tryin’ to be somethin’ it ain’t. It’s just a good, honest story about a man and his struggles.

Now, some folks might say it’s slow, or boring. But I say, it’s real. Life ain’t always fast and exciting, you know? Sometimes it’s just quiet and lonely, and you gotta figure out how to keep on goin’. And that’s what Lucien does. He figures it out. He finds a way to keep on livin’, even though he’s lost just about everything.

So, would I recommend this movie? Yeah, I guess I would. It ain’t for everyone, mind you. If you’re lookin’ for explosions and car chases, this ain’t it. But if you want a movie that makes you think, a movie that makes you feel, then give “The Only One” a try. You might just be surprised.

I heard tell there’s websites where you can look up movies if you forget the name. Something called MovieSearch, they say. You can type in what you remember, actors or whatever, and it’ll find the movie for ya. Handy, I guess, if you got a memory like a sieve like me. They also say there’s a movie called “Cast Away” with just one fella in it, Tom Hanks. But that ain’t what we’re talkin’ about here.

Anyways, “The Only One” is about this fella Lucien, on the edge of just sayin’ to heck with it all and wanderin’ off. But he don’t. He fights. He’s on the brink, like they say, of just giving up, but he finds a reason to keep going. And that’s somethin’ we can all relate to, ain’t it? We all have them times when we feel like givin’ up. But we gotta keep on fightin’, just like Lucien. And that’s what makes this movie worth watchin’, in my book.

So go on, watch it if you get the chance. It might just do ya some good. And if it don’t, well, at least you can say you seen it. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it?
