Alright, alright, settle down now, you young’uns. You wanna know about them scary movies from, what was it, 2011? Well, lemme tell ya, that year had some real spine-tinglers, the kind that make your hair stand on end and your teeth chatter like a broken tractor.

Now, I ain’t no fancy movie critic, ya hear? I just know what scares the bejesus outta me. And let me tell ya, Absentia, that one did the trick. It’s about this woman, see, and her sister, and they got this creepy tunnel mixed up with folks disappearin’. Real spooky stuff, made me think twice ’bout goin’ down into my cellar, that’s for sure.

  • Then there’s this Attack the Block. Some kinda alien monsters invadin’ a block of flats. Sounds silly, maybe, but it had me jumpin’ outta my seat more than once. And them young’uns in it, they were somethin’ else, fightin’ off them critters like nobody’s business.
  • And don’t even get me started on Kill List. Now that one, that one was messed up. Two hitmen, a job gone wrong, and things gettin’ real weird and dark. Not for the faint of heart, I tell ya. It stuck with me for days, had me lookin’ over my shoulder even in broad daylight.

Some folks say 2011 was a real good year for movies, all kinds, not just the scary ones. I wouldn’t know about that, I mostly stick to my stories and my soaps. But when it comes to horror, yeah, 2011 was somethin’ special. They had all sorts of scares, the slow-burn kind that creep up on ya, and the jump-out-and-getcha kind that make ya spill your tea.

I remember hearin’ about this movie, You’re Next. Didn’t see it myself, but folks were talkin’ about it. Said it was about a family get-together that goes real bad, real fast. Masked killers and all that. Sounded like a bloody mess, if you ask me.

Another one they talked about was Red State. Now this one, it was about some crazy religious folks, and things got violent, real violent. I ain’t one for too much gore, but I heard it was intense, the kind that makes you think about the world and the bad things people do.

There were others too, lots of ’em. Some I remember, some I don’t. It’s hard keepin’ track when you get to be my age. But 2011, yeah, that was a good year for a scare. They knew how to make ’em back then, not like these newfangled movies with all their fancy effects. Give me a good old-fashioned ghost story any day.

One thing’s for sure, them 2011 movies, they weren’t playin’ around. They got under your skin, made you think, made you scared to turn off the lights. And that, to me, is what makes a good horror movie. Not the blood and guts, but the feelin’ you get, that somethin’ ain’t right, that somethin’s watchin’ you. That’s the stuff that stays with you long after the credits roll.

So, if you’re lookin’ for a good scare, somethin’ to make you jump and shiver, go back to 2011. There’s plenty to choose from, believe you me. Just make sure you got a blanket to hide under and someone to hold onto. ‘Cause those movies, they’ll get ya. They sure got me.

And remember, it don’t matter if it’s a fancy movie with big stars or a low-budget flick, if it’s scary, it’s scary. And 2011 had plenty of both. So go on, give ’em a watch. But don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

I reckon some folks like the slow-burnin’ ones, the ones that creep up on ya like a fog. Others like the ones that smack ya in the face with a good ol’ fashioned jump scare. Me? I like a little bit of both, I guess. Keeps things interestin’, ya know? And 2011, it had all that and more. It was a good year for bein’ scared, that’s for sure.
