The Ultimate Movie Poster Death Wish: Rare and Classic Designs

Well, let me tell ya ’bout this movie poster, somethin’ called “Death Wish”. I ain’t no fancy movie person, but I seen this picture, and it kinda stuck with me. It’s got this fella, Charles Bronson, lookin’ all serious and holdin’ a gun. Real serious, ya know? Like he’s had enough of somethin’ and ain’t gonna take it no more.

This “Death Wish” thing, it ain’t no happy-go-lucky story, that’s for sure. Seems like this fella, Paul Kersey, he’s an architect, builds houses and stuff. Lives in New York City, big place, lots of people. But somethin’ bad happens to his family, real bad. And that’s when he changes. He ain’t buildin’ houses no more, he’s… well, he’s takin’ matters into his own hands, if ya catch my drift.

The poster, it tells ya a lot. You see that city behind him, all dark and grimy. Makes ya think things ain’t so good there. And Bronson, he’s standin’ right in the middle, like he’s gonna take on the whole darn city if he has to. Got that gun, like I said, and a look on his face that says, “Don’t mess with me.” It ain’t a pretty picture, but it sure does grab ya. This ain’t no love story or some comedy, this is a man pushed to his limits. He’s angry, he’s hurtin’, and he’s gonna do somethin’ about it.

  • It’s a poster from way back, 1974 they say. That’s a long time ago, even before my old man was… well, never mind that.
  • They call it a “one-sheet” poster, whatever that means. Guess it’s just one big piece of paper.
  • Some folks collect these things, the old movie posters. Say they’re worth somethin’. I wouldn’t know, I just like lookin’ at ’em sometimes.

Now, they made this movie with other actors too, not just Bronson. Vincent Gardenia, Hope Lange, some others I can’t rightly remember. But it’s Bronson you see on the poster, him and that gun. He’s the main fella, the one doin’ all the… takin’ care of business, let’s say. The director, Michael Winner, he knew what he was doin’, makin’ Bronson look all tough and determined.

They printed these posters on glossy paper, makes ’em shiny, I guess. Some are originals, from way back when, some are new prints, just copies really. But the picture, it’s always the same. Bronson, the gun, the city. The message is clear: this ain’t a movie for the faint of heart. It’s about fightin’ back, about gettin’ even, even if it ain’t the right way to do things. It makes you think, what would you do if somethin’ like that happened to you? Would you just stand there, or would you fight back, just like Bronson?

I reckon that’s why this “Death Wish” poster is so popular, even all these years later. It ain’t just a picture, it’s a story in itself. A story about a man pushed too far, a city gone wrong, and a whole lotta anger. And that’s somethin’ folks understand, no matter where they come from or what year it is. It’s a simple story, really, but it hits ya hard, like a punch to the gut.

So, if you ever see this “Death Wish” poster, take a good look. It ain’t just some pretty picture, it’s a piece of history, a reminder of a time when things were different, maybe tougher. And it’s a darn good story too, even if it ain’t a happy one. Makes ya think, that’s for sure, and that’s more than you can say for most of them fancy new movies these days. Just my two cents, ya know?
