Tom Cruise is doing the thing again!
In the official trailer (below) for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the 62-year-old actor is hanging off another airplane — only this time, he’s doing it upside down and, at times, seemingly one handed.
The is just one of several action set pieces teased in the MI: 8 footage released on Monday.
The feature is the eighth (and possibly final) installment for Cruise in the long-running franchise, which dates back to 1996’s Mission: Impossible and which has become known for an increasingly ambitious series of stunts.
Christopher McQuarrie, who has navigated the franchise since 2015’s Rogue Nation, is back directing the latest installment.
The cast includes Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Henry Czerny, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff, Vanessa Kirby, Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, Katy O’Brian and Tramell Tillman.
Cruise has played it coy about if this will indeed be his final installment. In recent years, he suggested he would like to play Ethan Hunt into his 80s. But more recently he has been non-committal. “You gotta see the movie,” Cruise told Empire when asked if it was the final installment for him. “It’s a hard thing for me to discuss at the moment, because it really is something that you have to experience.”
The seventh film, Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning (originally titled Part One), has a 94 percent freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $571 million at the global box office. Still, this outcome was considered a bit disappointing for the pricy franchise, and the project shed the Part One from its title, presumably to reset things a bit for the eighth film.
Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning debuts in theaters May 23.
